CABARET TONIGHT IN DC: ELIJAH BALBED & THE EAST COAST COLLECTIVE AT BOHEMIAN CAVERNS
Elijah Balbed & the East Coast Collective (Luke Brandon - Trumpet, Mark Meadows - Piano, Alex Claffy - Bass, and Corey Fonville - Drums) will perform at BOHEMIAN CAVERNS(2001 Eleventh Street N.W., Washington, DC - 202-299-0800 - ) on Friday, September 6th with shows at 8:30 & 10:00 pm. Saxophonist and composer Elijah Jamal Balbed is one of Washington, DC's most acclaimed young musicians. His 2012 debut album release, entitled Checking In, was named #4 Best Jazz CD in 2012 by Capitol Bop, and received great reviews. The title track from this album made it to the semi-final round of the 2012-2013 International Songwriters Competition, among other renowned artists including Rene Marie, Gregory Porter, Lionel Loueke, and others. The same track is also used as a jingle on DC's only jazz radio station, WPFW. In April of 2013, Elijah completed his second residency at the historic Bohemian Caverns, where he experimented with a new idea. All along the east coast there are great jazz scenes in many different cities with many great musicians. The East Coast Collective is a concept group that draws from a rotating cast of musicians, all from different cities along the coast. Elijah returns to the Caverns with a new assemblage of this group, and some exciting new material.
