L.A.: THE NATE BIRKEY QUARTET AT STEAMERS
CELEBRATING MARCH IS CABARET MONTH
The Nate Birkey Quartet (Nate Birkey - trumpet, vocals; Jamieson Trotter, piano; Jim Connolly, bass; Peter Buck, drums) will play at 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 21st atSTEAMERS JAZZ CLUB AND CAFE (138 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton, CA - 714-871-8800). Birkey has released seven albums for the California-based Household Ink Records. With the 2008 releases of Almost Home and Christmas - his first recordings made with his New York City quintet, Birkey takes another step upward and outward. Deftly mixing standards tastefully delivered, warm and imaginative originals in various genre leanings, and material from less-trodden sources, Birkey has an engaging way with a song, as a fluid improviser and vocalist of understated grace. There is no cover.
