L.A.: THE TONY DESARE TRIO SWINGS IN SAN RAFAEL
Singer/Songwriter Tony DeSare brings his own fresh take on memorable standards made famous by singers such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Mel Torme, while seamlessly adding originals and surprising contemporaries at THE KANBAR CENTER at OSHER MARIN JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER (200 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael, CA - 415-444-8088) on Saturday, May 19th at 8:00 pm (Pre-Event "Swing" dance lesson 7:30 pm). Tony DeSare - whose third CD Radio Show was released by Telarc Records earlier this year - has won critical and popular acclaim for his concert performances throughout the United States as well as in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. He was personally selected by Sam Arlen, son of Harold Arlen, the composer of classic songs like "Over The Rainbow," "Get Happy," and "Stormy Weather," to perform with the Duke Ellington Orchestra at Birdland for a recent Harold Arlen Centennial. His new big band show was presented by "Saturday Night Live" alum Joe Piscopo in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. DeSare's noted versatility enables him to headline a variety of venues. He has performed at major jazz rooms like Birdland and the Blue Note with his quartet; posh nightclubs like the Cafe Carlyle and Feinstein's at the Regency; with his big band in concert halls like Jazz at Lincoln Center; or with a 60-piece orchestra. Tickets are $25-$30.
