NYC: THE NATE BIRKEY QUARTET AT 55 BAR TONIGHT
The Nate Birkey Quartet (Nate Birkey - trumpet, vocals; Mark Soskin, piano; Bill Moring, bass; Marko Marcinko, drums) will play from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday, February 21st at 55 BAR (55 Christopher Street, NYC, 212-929-9883). Birkey has released seven albums for the California-based Household Ink Records. With the 2008 releases of Almost Home and Christmas - his first recordings made with his New York City quintet, Birkey takes another step upward and outward. Deftly mixing standards tastefully delivered, warm and imaginative originals in various genre leanings, and material from less-trodden sources, Birkey has an engaging way with a song, as a fluid improviser and vocalist of understated grace. There is no cover charge.
