NYC: "HUB ART" - THE MUSIC OF FREDDIE HUBBARD
"Hub Art" - the Music of Freddie Hubbard, will be presented at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, January 25th through 29th with sets at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. One of the great jazz trumpeters of all time, Freddie Hubbard formed his sound out of the Clifford Brown/Lee Morgan tradition, and by the early '70s was immediately distinctive and the pacesetter in jazz. His distinctive and influential tone greatly contributed to new perspectives for modern jazz and bebop. Coming together to celebrate his music two years after Hubbard's death is an all-star lineup featuring Donald Harrison (alto sax), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), George Cables (piano), Dwayne Burno (bass) and Lenny White (drums). There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
