NYC: Patti Wicks Returns To METROPOLITAN ROOM
Jazz pianist and vocalist Patti Wicks returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with one final show on Sunday June 20th at 9:30 pm. Ms. Wicks, who began her career in New York in the early 70s playing a number of legendary jazz clubs will be accompanied by bassist Linc Milliman. Early on the Long-Island native compensated for a visual disability by learning the piano by ear. In the 70s and 80s she was a regular presence at such clubs as Bradley's, The Half Note, Ted Hook's Backstage, Jimmy Weston's, The Living Room and The Apartment, and her trio often opened for comedians George Carlin and Bob Newhart. Over the years Wicks has accompanied such renowned vocalists as Anita O'Day, Sheila Jordan, Carol Sloane (at the Village Vanguard) and Rebecca Parris. She has worked with jazz greats Clark Terry, Larry Coryell, Cecil Payne, Flip Phillips, Buddy DeFranco, Frank Morgan and Italy's legendary Gianni Basso. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
