HERE & THERE - PART I - BLOG EDITION
HERE & THERE - PART I
Summer is here - both officially and "in spirit" as we found out this weekend, here in NYC, with temperatures in the high 80s. This "heat wave" is expected to continue at least through Thursday. Now is a great time to experience the cool comfort of a cabaret room near you!
Tickets are on sale - were more than 1/2 sold out - to our 20th ANNIVERSARY GALA, and now we're ready to take orders for ad for the program booklet - just $25 for a 1/4 page ad, $40 for 1/2 page, $75 for full page ($25 additional for cover position). Same price as our MARCH IS CABARET booklet. This is an especially handy way for folks who can't make it to the show to support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, and also want to advertise a cabaret event or CD release coming up in July, August or early September. Space it limited. Deadline is July 6th. For specs and to order, just click here:
While it is celebrated on different dates and weeks in June in different places, GAY PRIDE week is being celebrated this coming week in Manhattan, with the parade held on Sunday, the 27th of June. To save money for cash strapped NYC, the parade route has been shortened this year (as have most other parades and street fairs in town) to cut back on police, sanitation and other city personel needed to oversee (and clean up after). Several "pride" cabaret events can be found in the listings below and on the website on the CABARET EVENT LISTING page.
The 4th of July U.S. INDEPENDANCE DAY celebration will soon be here, and this year, since the 4th is on Sunday, the holiday will be observed on Monday the 5th. And CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE will be published on Tuesday, next week, July 6th. Now that issue might be on the short side for 2 reasons: there won't be much e-mail with news coming on from Thursday the 1st on, as many folks take an extra long weekend. Plus, July 6th also happens to be my 71st birthday and I simply might not feel like working very that hard that day. Stay tuned.
Congratulations to BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) - their application for non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization has been accepted by the IRS and we are now classified as a public charity. This means that they are qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, transfers and gifts. Before you ask why MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) hasn't done this, well it was looked into several years ago, but MAC was founded as a Trade Association, and they would have to completely re-organized with a whole new constitution - and the legal complications (as well as the practical limitations) were considered not worth the effort.
Congrats to Anthony Santelmo, Jr. for being chosen to spend July in the Fingerlakes region of NY State - cool place to retreat to in the summer. He's been booked to play Dr. Dreyfuss in PROMISES, PROMISES at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY from July 7th through 28th. Website is http://merry-go-round.com/ for information.
Subscribers on the west coast, be on the lookout for the irreverent music/comedy team of Booth & Pat (Booth Daniels & Patrick Frankfort) who are appearing as part of HOLLYWOOD FRINGE at COMEDYSPORTZ LA - starting Monday. I call them the "Katzenjammer Kids of Kabaret" and they are "Tweeting" on TWITTER all their adventures and misadventures - you can follow their antics athttp://twitter.com/boothandpat . Catch their show, if you can. So much fun there's a bill in congress to make it illegal.
