S.F.: VESTA WILLIAMS AT THE RRAZZ ROOM
Extending a tradition that stretches from Aretha Franklin to Sarah Vaughn, singer/songwriter Vesta Williams masterminds a soulful mix of musical eras and genres in her show at RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189) on Friday & Saturday, May 14th & 15th at 9:00 pm and Sunday, May 16th at 7:30 pm. A versatile performer, Vesta's talents extend from comedy to song. Since her 1986 debut album, Vesta has become known not only as a true singer, but also as something of a comedienne. Countless appearances on the Arsenio Hall show as well as a week-long stint as sole host of BET's popular "Video Soul" program allowed viewers a chance to experience her musical talents as well as her skills as a stand-up comic and consummate impersonator. She won critical raves as the saloon singer in the Mario Van Peebles' film "POSSE" and performed two songs on the soundtrack: "Tell Me" and "Ride For Your Life." On the TV sitcom "Sister Sister," Vesta was Monica, the best friend of Jackee Harry. Tickets are $37.50.
