MORE "HERE & THERE" PART II

We already have 55 2010-2011 CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members! This number includes about 35 members of the now discontinued CABARET FOR SENIORS program who were eligible to receiver a free 2009-2010 membership extension for 2010-2011. We are also extended 2009-2010 memberships to anyone who joined after April 1, 2010. All current memberships expire July 5, 2010 - and folks joining for the first time get an extra 2-months to use their card before the new year starts!

A few issues back we mentioned how easy it is to write a review slamming a show seen (you only need to check out the comments on the message board at http://www.talkinbroadway.com/allthatchat/ to see examples of "man's inhumanity to man"). I saw a show this week that was pretty awful, but the audience, for some strange reason, did not agree with me. There were several critics in the room and I can't wait to see what their take will be. They may ignore the experience (I actually want to forget the experience) but we shall see - everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and when it comes to cabaret, since "anything goes" there is room for all points of view. As for me, I ordered a 3rd drink, but even that didn't help.

Now this is not intended to keep you from checking out shows from new or unknown performers. Most times you will discover a performer of note - someone to watch turn into a star (and sometimes scooped up by Broadway, Hollywood & TV). Just chat with Sidney Myer (booking manager at DON'T TELL MAMA) about the fantastic number of performers (and songwriters, musicians, writers) who got their start in entertainment at his room (sometimes with "less than stellar shows), and went on to stardom in varies fields of the entertainment business, including cabaret. I am sure that everyone who is, or at anytime was, a booking manager at a cabaret venue for any length of time can tell you similar stories. Take a chance - you might hit the jackpot. As the slogan goes, you can't win it if you aren't in it!

See a show or two this week! Visit our websites! Run a banner or sidebar ad! Join CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for 2010-2011. Now - more than ever - cabaret (and CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE) needs your support. Every day, in every way, we're promoting cabaret!

And that's just about the way it was. I still have a lot more to tell you about but we've run out of space so the rest will have to wait until Thursday's issue.
