HERE & THERE - PART I
===============
I love putting these newsletters together twice a week - and I hope that you all at least glance through the listings as see the variety of shows, the number of talented performers, and the many locations and venues where the art of cabaret is presented and performed.
Check out a few of the show listings for Melbourne's BUTTERFLY CLUB, for example. As a cabaret fan, I almost am tempted to retire there some day (if I ever decide to retire). Or see what the folks in the Chicago area are cooking up - they only have a few venues to perform in compared to NYC, so they have to be especially creative.
At the same time, I'm a little concerned about the lack of cabaret news from some parts of the USA where cabaret seemed to thrive just a year or so ago. I understand that the economy is still in the tank and the near 10% unemployment is a drag, but just like those pesky dandelions on the lawn, cabaret always seems to resurrect itself in times like these.
And I'm doing my best to help!

If you're in the Los Angeles area, just a reminder that the "last call" for live auditions for The Art of Cabaret - Master Classes in Song Performance this summer at the THE PERRY-MANSFIELD PERFORMING ARTS SCHOOL & CAMP (40755 RCR 36 Steamboat Springs, CO - 970-879-7125 - http://www.perry-mansfield.org/ ) the week of August 23rd through 30th is tonight - Monday, April 26th. Call 1-800-430-2787 right away to arrange your audition. See the website at http://www.perry-mansfield.org/ for details. I've heard a lot of great things about this program. One of my best pals Sue Matsuki is still all aglow about attending this camp a few years ago and another graduate, Gretchen Reinhagen, uses the camp in all her publicity materials and actually was inspired to create her Nightlife Award winning show about Kaye Ballard (last performance this Saturday, May 1st at the METROPOLITAN ROOM. See details in the next section.

So you write a song. You record the song. Great, yes? Well, how about these apples (to quote Gretchen): Boston-area based singer/songwriter Krisanthi Pappas just received the great news that a song that she wrote, One Slow Dance A Day, will be making its PRIME TIME television debut on a new TV show called PARENTHOOD on NBC - airing on this Tuesday's episode, April 27th (10:00 pm EST). She's singing the track with her band (Bill Duffy on piano, Steve Skop on bass, John DiSanto on drums and John Payne on tenor sax). More details at http://www.nbc.com/parenthood/about/

It's nearly all over but the counting. There's been a sudden drop in promotional email and new show notices around here because the voting for this year's MAC AWARD winners is nearly over. Believe me, some nominees took the "overkill" route. sometimes sending daily invites to their shows. I'm glad that's over - see next item:

ATTENTION CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE MEMBERS: Did you send back your 2010 MAC AWARD STRAW POLL contest entry yet? DEADLINE IS SUNDAY, MAY 2nd. Remember, the straw poll is really a contest and not a vote. Just mark your ballot with the folks you predict to win in each category and send it back. The person(s) who most accurately predicts the most winners will be awarded a set of 6 cabaret CDs (the award will be divided if more than one winner results.) We are only balloting on the top categories. If you need a new entry form, let me know.

It's raining again today in NYC - you know what they say about April Showers (I actually was hoping all that rain in March would mean fewer showers in April, but I guess not). It's supposed to continue through Wednesday at least.

Something new has been added to the roster of ad styles on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website - Super HomePage Sidebar Ads. They're actually the same size as the SUPER SIDEBAR ads that appear on over 2600 of the 6000 pages on the website, but appear only on 50 or so most popular pages. They are so new I haven't had a chance to include then in the ADVERTISING INFO page yet. The first one appears right now on the website - check it out. Regular HomePage sidebar ads are $25 per week (2 week minimum), and these double size ads are $45 per week. No discounts or rebates on HomePage Sidebars, either size, and they must be paid via PAYPAL. Only two "supers" will be allowed each week. There is a $15 one-time design charge (more for animated ads depending on the number of panels).

We also closed down the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH website over the weekend - anyone visiting there will be automatically transferred to the regular CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website. The same fate might befall out CABARETSINGS.COM website unless we can attract more participants. Inclusion on the site - http://www.CabaretSings.com/ - is free for all songwriter members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. The website expires on May 30th so I need to make a decision before then if I plan to continue it. If you're a songwriter and would like to be included, a simple membership is all that's required.
