NYC: MASON AT MAMA'S IN MARCH

Way back in 1982 DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) opened in the Manhattan Theater District on Restaurant Row. Two legendary cabaret stars opened the room - Karen Mason and the late Nancy LaMott. And now, 32 years later, Karon Mason returns for MARCH IS CABARET MONTH with her show MASON at MAMA'S in MARCH! Karen will perform every Sunday and Monday in March at 7:00 pm starting on Sunday & Monday, March 1st 7 2nd. Karen's new show features fresh arrangements of classics, new songs and music she and her longtime composer/ arranger Brian Lasser performed in the early days at Mama's. Musical Director is Christopher Denny and the show is directed by Barry Kleinbort. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: REVOLUTION - KATHLEEN FRANCE & DAWN DEROW

MAC Nominated Cabaret Artists Kathleen France & Dawn Derow team up for their new duo dhow: Revolution at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Sunday, March 15th at 6:30 pm. They will be singing songs that celebrate our greatest triumphs and times of deepest sorrow during times of war. A historical reflection of music throughout the ages, paying tribute to our past, our soldiers, and our future. A portion of all cover charges donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: MARK JANAS' SALON AT ETCETERA ETCETERA - "FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD - LIFE IS A BANQUET!"

SALON - that unique, Multiple Award Winning, Weekly Open Mic Event, created and hosted by Mark Janas continues at ETCETERA ETCETERA(352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) on Sundays from 7:00 to 10:30 pm (sign-up begins at 6:15 pm). The optional theme for Sunday evening March 15th is "Food, Glorious Food - Life Is A Banquet!" Co-Host will be Charles Baran. Remember, any material, on or off theme, is always welcome at Salon. There are no reservations; seating is on a first come/ first served basis, with one intermission. There is a $10 cash cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum. 

NYC: JANINE GILBERT-CARTER - JAZZY AND SOULFULLY YOURS

Jazzy, Soulfully Yours with jazz vocalist Janine Gilbert-Carter will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, March 15th at 7:00 pm. She is backed by Glenn A Douglas on Piano; Wes Biles on Bass; Jeff Neal on Drums and Marshall Keys on Sax. This will be an intimate evening of Jazz and Blues standards paying tribute to many of our Jazz legends. Be prepared to go on an amazing musical journey. You will not be disappointed! The MC for the evening will be New York native Carol May Tyson, the daughter of world renowned and one of the most prodigious and prolific bassists of the postwar era, the late Earl May. Mrs. Tyson is the producer at Robyn's Place hosted by another New York native Robyn Holden at WPFW 89.3 FM Washington DC. Janine Carter was introduced to gospel, Jazz and blues at a very early age by her parents and grandmother. This Pennsylvania native cannot remember a time when music was not a part of her very existence. She began her musical journey like so many contemporary artists as a member of the choir at her church in Aliquippa, PA. She also had the opportunity to expand on her solo performances as a member of the Bach Choir of PA which performed some of Broadways most exciting musicals. Janine continued to use the gift she was given to perform at various functions and special events until she relocated to the Washington, DC Metropolitan area in the summer of 1988. During the summer of 1996 Janine performed her debut concert in the DC area at New Genesis Baptist Church; this celestial songbird has been flying ever since. Audiences have been delighted with her performances at leading DC jazz venues such as: The Mandarin Oriental, Kaufmann's, Laporta's, The Strathmore, Twins Jazz, The U Street Jazz series, The FMJS East Coast Jazz Festival and the Mid-Atlantic Jazz festival and the legendary Washington DC supper Club Blues Alley in addition to several prestigious White House Events. She has also completed four international tours to Italy, Russia and Israel. Janine has shared the stage with area-wide jazz musicians; pianist Aaron Grave, Vince Smith, Eric Byrd, Allyn Johnson, Glenn Douglas, Chris Grasso and Ron Elliston; bassist Wes Biles, James King, Saxophonists Paul Carr, Brian Settles and Marshall Keys and percussionist Nasar Abadey Jeff Neal and the late Ricky Loza and Mike Smith. In 2006 Janine joined the cast of "Sistas Can Sang, A Tribute to Female Jazz Legends" where she portrays the legendary Dinah Washington. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: MELISSA GERSTEIN & ELIZABETH EIEL AT THE MET

Melissa Gerstein & Elizabeth Eiel will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, March 15th at 9:30 pm. Elizabeth Eiel, an Iowa native, received her Masters in vocal performance at Manhattan School of Music. She has performed extensively through out the New York Metropolitan area with American Singers Opera Project, Opera Company of Brooklyn, Garden State Opera, Chelsea Opera, Bronx Opera & St. Jean Players singing both opera & musical theater. Ms. Eiel made her Town Hall debut to a full house with One World Symphony singing Maria in West Side Story Suite #1. Melissa Gerstein has gained considerable notice in the New York City music scene. Her background includes training and performance at the American Singers' Opera Project in New York City, Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice in France, University of Miami's Summer in Salzburg and the Spoleto Vocal Arts Symposium in Italy. Ms Gerstein has also performed with such opera groups as the Dell'arte Opera Ensemble, the Little Opera Company of New York, Amato Opera, Chelsea Opera, and One World Symphony Orchestra. A few of her operatic credits include, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Siebel in Romeo et Juliette, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Annio in La Clemenza di Tito, Hansel in Hänsel und Gretel, Auntie in Peter Grimes and Bianca in Rape of Lucretia. The past several years, Ms. Gerstein has been specializing in public relations, marketing and artistic administration. She serves as the Public Relations and Marketing Director for the Art Song Preservation Society, a company where she helps produce concerts, masterclasses and special events. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Underworld Productions Opera Company. There is a $22.50 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: 54 SINGS A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE

Tony Award-winning writing team Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty and Tony Award winner Terrence McNally's musical A Man Of No Importance comes to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, March 15th with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm - an all-star concert presentation. The show played off-Broadway at Lincoln Center in 2002 and has become a beloved piece done by theaters all over the world. The score of A Man Of No Importance, including songs such as "Princess," "The Streets of Dublin," and "Love Who You Love," has gained popularity over the years and is treasured by musical theatre fans. Come hear the gorgeous songs by Ahrens and Flaherty that tell the story of an amateur theater group in Dublin. They are determined to stage a version of Oscar Wilde's Salome at their church despite the objections of church authorities. Their leader, bus driver Alfie Byrne, must also comes to terms with his sexuality when confronted with the possibility of love. The concert version of A Man Of No Importance will feature an all-star cast singing this glorious score from this beautiful show, winner of The Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. Featuring: Two-time Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Young Frankenstein, Chicago, Finian's Rainbow), Three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me Kate, Ragtime, Next To Normal), Douglas Sills (Living On Love, Lady Be Good, Little Shop Of Horrors), Colin Donnell (Lady Be Good, Violet, Anything Goes), Rose Hemingway (How To Succeed...), Jim Norton (Of Mice And Men, The Mystery Of Edwin Drood, Finian's Rainbow) and additional casting to be announced. Produced and Directed by T. Oliver Reid and Musical Direction by Shawn Gough. There is a $40-$75 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: BIRDLAND JAZZ PARTY With NATALIE DOUGLAS - EVERY SUNDAY
A MARCH IS CABARET MONTH EVENT

Natalie Douglas takes over the reins of the internationally renowned Birdland Jazz Club's "Jazz Party With Natalie Douglas" every Sunday night at 6:00 pm at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) . Joining Douglas will be her band, led by longtime musical director Mark Hartman. "Jazz Party" has most recently been hosted by Grammy-nominated vocalist Jane Monheit. Douglas, the seven-time MAC Award and Backstage Bistro Award Winner, has garnered rave reviews for her unique mix of jazz, blues, standards, pop, folk and country music. This past June, she received the 2014 Margaret Whiting Award onstage at Carnegie Hall from the Mabel Mercer Foundation & My Ideal Music. In September 2014, Natalie's portrait was added to the Birdland Jazz Club Wall of Fame. Her recent performances include concerts across the U.S. (Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Cafe Carlyle, and The Appel Room - formerly The Allen Room - at Lincoln Center) and across three continents (Montenegro, Greece, Corsica, Puerto Vallarta, London, Buenos Aires, Cancun & Germany.) In a Greenwich Village tradition, she also performs an annual New Year's Eve collaboration with Mark Hartman at the Duplex. Her solo recordings include her debut CD, Not That Different - which was nominated for a 2000 MAC Award for Outstanding Recording - and To Nina ... Live At Birdland, a concert recording of her one-woman show, To Nina: A Tribute to Nina Simone. Both CDs, available at iTunes and other outlets, continue to be featured on NPR and Sirius XM Radio. She also appears on Fine and Dandy for PS Classics and Broadway By The Year: 1940 on Bayview Records. Natalie is also an actor and can be seen in the feature film "The Camera's Eye," has appeared on ABC's "Cupid," and in many theatrical productions, including The People vs. Mona, Thalia Follies, theATrainplays (series 5-22) with The Neighborhood Playhouse, Hillside in Hell with 13th Street Rep and was a featured soloist at the York Theatre Company's benefit production of Children Of Eden at Riverside Church.
