NYC: THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG CENTENNIAL BAND

The Louis Armstrong Centennial Band aka David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band performs at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band (also known as the Louis Armstrong Centennial Band) breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 12th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/ vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more! There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: ELIANE ELIAS AT BIRDLAND

Five time GRAMMY Award Nominee, four time "Gold Disc Award" recipient and three time winner of "Best Vocal Album" in Japan, #1 artist in sales and radio in France, with all recordings reaching top five on Billboard Magazine, jazz radio charts and itunes to name a few accolades, Eliane Elias has taken her place in the pantheon of music giants. And now Elaine appears at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Tuesday through Saturday, December 2nd through 6th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Elias' latest recording I Thought About You (A Tribute To Chet Baker) offers her personalized spin on her connection to the singer-instrumentalist tradition and arrives with a statement of purpose: jazz repertoire can sound totally fresh when delivered with ingenuity and passion. Elias is known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots, her sensuous, alluring voice with her impressive instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills. With 23 albums to date demonstrating her unique gifts as a pianist, singer, composer and arranger as well as melding her immense talents in jazz, pop, classical and Brazilian music, Eliane Elias is a "citizen of the world"! NYC: PAT METHENY UNITY GROUP KIN - WORLD TOUR FINALE

The Pat Metheny Unity Group Kin (Pat Metheny, Chris Potter, Ben Williams, Antonio Sanchez and Giulio Carmassi) will hold a "Special Homecoming Event Celebrating The 150-City World Tour" at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday through Sunday, December 2nd through 7th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. The year 2013 has been a banner one for Pat Metheny. After being awarded his 20th Grammy, for Unity Band, and the release of his critically acclaimed recording of Tap: John Zorn's Book of Angels, Vol. 20, Metheny received word that the readers of DownBeat magazine had voted to induct him into its Hall of Fame. Not only is Metheny the youngest member, but he is also only the fourth jazz guitarist to be chosen for that honor, joining Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, and Wes Montgomery. The coming year promises to be equally exciting. There is a $40-$75 cover.

NYC: THE LOU DONALDSON QUARTET AT DIZZY'S

The Lou Donaldson Quartet (Lou Donaldson, alto saxophone/ vocals; Randy Johnston, guitar; Akiko Tsuruga, Hammond b-3 organ; and Fukushi Tainaka, drums) performs at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Thursday through Sunday, December 4th through 7th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. NEA Jazz Master Lou Donaldson has been one of the most respected names in jazz since the 1950s, when he worked with artists like Milt Jackson and Thelonious Monk. With a huge tone and soul-influenced style that combines straight-ahead jazz, blues, bebop, and soul music, he calls his groove-laden style "soul sax." Don't miss this chance to see a living legend and his band play some seriously feelin' good music, featuring saxophone, vocals, guitar, Hammond b-3 organ, and drums. There is a $35-$45 cover.
