NYC: MIDTOWN JAZZ AT MIDDAY: CHAMPIAN FULTON

MIDTOWN JAZZ AT MIDDAY continues at ST. PETER'S CHURCH - SANCTUARY(619 Lexington Avenue, NYC - 212-935-2200 - ) every Wednesday. This long-running series was created by Edmund Anderson and is now produced by Ronny Whyte. The show on Wednesday,November 5th features Champian Fulton (voice / piano), Stephen Fulton (flugelhorn), and Jack Baker (bass). Performances are at 1:00 pm, $10 donation. 

NYC: MARILYN MAYE & BUCKY PIZZARELLI AT THE IRIDIUM

ScoBar Entertainment presents the legendary vocalist Marilyn Maye will be appearing at THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121) on Wednesday & Thursday, November 5th & 6th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm! Her special guest is the equally legendary Bucky Pizzarelli! The show is 'Two Swingin' Souls'. The reunion of these two "Tonight Show" alumni is bound to be a musical party. Ms. Maye appeared on "The Tonight Show" a record 76 times, more than any singer & Mr. Pizzarelli was an original member of "The Tonight Show Band," playing with Skitch Henderson. NYC: THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG CENTENNIAL BAND

The Louis Armstrong Centennial Band aka David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band performs at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band (also known as the Louis Armstrong Centennial Band) breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 12th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/ vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more! There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: DJANGO REINHARDT NY FESTIVAL 15TH ANNIVERSARY

2014 celebrates 15 years of the Django Reinhardt NY Festival, which has become a one of the largest events at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080), and is highly anticipated by the public of NYC. This year performances are scheduled for Tuesday through Saturday, November 4th through 8th. The Festival All-Stars tour the US twice a year at major venues and festivals, such as The Newport Jazz Festival this past August. The Django Festival Allstars have been coming to America and played alongside many of the tops in jazz: George Benson, Joe Lovano, Paquito D'Rivera, Anat Cohen, Edmar Castaneda, Frank Wess, Lew Tabakin, Joel Frahm, and so many more. They have performed elite venues, like The Kennedy Center, Disney Hall, The San Francisco Jazz Festival, Caramoor, Newport Jazz Festival to name a few. Dorado Schmitt, legendary gypsy guitarist, has been coming to the Festival for over 10 years, and along the way, teaching his son's the lessons of great gypsy guitar. They family originates from Forbach, a gypsy community near Strasbourg in France, bringing the authenticity of the music to the NY stage. These talented artists swing like crazy and will break your heart with a sultry ballad. Each of them are composers and while this music can harken back to the great music of the past, their interpretations, arrangements, virtuosity, and original compositions bring a newness to Django's style of music and take it beyond. There is a $45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. 

NYC: THE STANTON MOORE TRIO AT THE BLUE NOTE

The Stanton Moore Trio will appear at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday & Wednesday, November 4th & 5th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Born and raised in New Orleans, Stanton Moore is a dedicated drummer and performer especially connected to the city, its culture and collaborative spirit. Driven and inspired by the thriving music scene of his hometown which includes such greats as Professor Longhair, Doctor John and The Meters, Moore's name is now mentioned amongst these Big Easy mainstays. With a bachelor's degree in music and business from Loyola University, Moore stays involved in education by constantly giving clinics and teaching master classes and private lessons all over the world. There is a $10-$25 cover.

NYC: ITAMAR BOROCHOV QUINTET FEATURING JD ALLEN AT DIZZY'S

The Itamar Borochov Quintet Featuring JD Allen will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Wednesday, November 5th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The performances are part of the Israeli Jazz Festival. The quintet features Itamar Borochov, trumpet/flugelhorn; JD Allen, tenor saxophone; Eden Ladin, piano; Alexander Claffy, bass; Jay Sawyer, drums. Israeli trumpeter Itamar Borochov moved to the United States in 2006 from Jaffa, an integrated Muslim-Jewish-Christian city, and appropriately landed in New York City. Borochov creates jazz with an emphasis on emotion and melody, unique in its tone and rooted in a powerful blend of modal jazz, Israeli, Arab, and pan-African music. In addition to his important role in worldwide sensation Yemen Blues, Borochov is touring the Itamar Borochov Quartet internationally in support of their debut album, Outset. The album, released in April 2014, gives plenty of reason to be excited about tonight's performances, showing the group's compositional diversity and ability to draw listeners into an evocative world in which the familiar is transplanted into various faraway lands. There is a $30 cover.
