NYC: MARLENE VER PLANCK AT JAZZ AT KITANO

Jazz vocalist Marlene Ver Planck performs at JAZZ AT KATANO (66 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-885-7119) on Wednesday, August 13th with sets at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. She is joined by Tedd Firth - piano, Boots Maleson - bass and Ron Vincent - drums. Marlene got her start in the big-band business, as a very young vocalist with Charlie Spivak and Tex Beneke. During a brief stint with the last Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, she met her future husband, musician-arranger Billy VerPlanck. Marlene performs across North America and much of Western Europe, while a growing roster of solo CDs continues to win critical acclaim. The albums feature exciting arrangements scored by her late husband, Billy VerPlanck, with accompaniment by many of America's finest musicians. There is a $15 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG CENTENNIAL BAND

The Louis Armstrong Centennial Band aka David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band performs at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band (also known as the Louis Armstrong Centennial Band) breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 12th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/ vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more! There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: THE BIRDLAND BIG BAND DIRECTED BY TOMMY IGOE

The Birdland Big Band directed by Tommy Igoe makes their semi-annual, weeklong headlining engagement at BIRDLAND(315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, August 12th through 16th with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Featured special guests are James Genus, from SNL and Herbie Hancock! Drumming icon, Tommy Igoe and his band are putting a fresh, global spin on a proud American art form. Cherished music from Buddy Rich, Woody Herman and Count Basie share the stage with unforgettable songs from Spain, Cuba, Brazil and New Orleans. Blues, Funk, Brazilian, Latin and incredible special guests make every show a unique journey. Experience one of the world's finest drummers leading this breathtaking ensemble. There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: EARL KLUGH AT THE BLUE NOTE

GRAMMY Award-winning guitar virtuoso Earl Klugh will appear at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Tuesday through Sunday, August 12th through 17th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Since Klugh released his inaugural album in 1976, the Detroit-born master of the acoustic-classical guitar has become one of the most imitated icons of the instrument, issued dozens of discs, 23 of which have been on Billboard's top-10 list of jazz albums and 5 that made it to the No. 1 slot. During that time, Klugh's recordings also received 12 GRAMMY nominations (the latest of which was for his 2008 CD The Spice of Life) - and his collaboration with pianist Bob James, One on One, walked away with the 1980 GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. There is a $20-$35 cover.

NYC: CELEBRATING 60 YEARS OF SARAH VAUGHAN AND CLIFFORD BROWN

Celebrating 60 Years of Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown, Curated and Co-Presented by Revive Music, will be presented at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595)on Tuesday & Wednesday, August 12th & 13th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. The show features Sean Jones and Keyon Harrold, trumpets with Kennedy and Joanna Teters, vocals; Raymond Angry, piano; Chris Smith, bass; and Nasheet Waits, drums. Revive Music and Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrate 60 years of Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown, the beloved album that has since been inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame. This remarkable recording was the only collaboration between legendary vocalist Sarah Vaughan and trumpet icon Clifford Brown. Critically acclaimed musicians of multiple eras - many of them regular performers at Jazz at Lincoln Center - join forces to premiere new arrangements of this classic material, in a showcase of two great voices of our time. There is a $35 cover.
