FRAMINGHAM, MA: AMAZING THINGS OPEN MIC FEATURING KAREN MULVEY

Every second Wednesday of the month Leslie Holmes hosts an amazing Open Mic night at the AMAZING THINGS ARTS CENTER (160 Hollis Street, Framingham, MA - 508-405-2787), and each show features a special guest. On Wednesday, August 13th the featured guest will be Sara Curry. Pianist for both Frank and the open mic is Bonnie MacLeod. Sara Curry studied voice at the Greenwich House School of Music, the New School, as well as acting, sight-singing and voice at HB Studios in Greenwich Village, N.Y. for ten years. Also studied acting at the Cambridge Center For Adult Education in 2004. A trained registered nurse raising a family of three children, music was always her avocation.  She sang regularly under the direction of pianist Walt Hasen and the Roger Acker Jazz Band at poolside and nighttime shows at her favorite Golf Resort in NY throughout the nineties. Sara has served as Outreach Director for BACA for a year and directed ten shows which were performed various places to include the Newton Sports Complex,  the YMCA Children's Festival, the Brighton Library and various Senior Living facilities. The open-mic starts at 7:00 pm (signup at 6:30 pm), and the featured performers go on at 8:10 pm. There is an $10 cover charge ($9 cover for BACA members).

TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: ROBERT CHAPMAN

Robert Chapman, an up-and-coming jazz guitarist from Toronto, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesday, August 13th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist series. From an early age he as been playing all types of music on various instruments but fell in love with jazz after starting to play with the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band during high school. After graduating high school Robert continued his jazz studies at both Mohawk College and Humber College where he had the opportunity to study and play with some of Canada's finest musicians such as Pat Collins, Mike Malone, Adrean Farrugia, Kieran Overs, Neil Swainson, and many more. During his final year at Mohawk College, Robert was a featured artist on Jazz FM 91.1's 'Jazzology' program. Currently Robert is performing all over the G.T.A. and hopes to play more shows with his trio and quartet. No cover charge.

TORONTO: NICK ARSENEAU & EWEN FARNCOMBE AT JAZZ BISTRO

As part of August's "Young Artist Spotlight" Series Nick Arseneau & Ewen Farncombe will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesday, August 13th at 8:00 pm. Nick Arseneau is a young up-and-coming jazz bassist, currently finishing his final year of jazz studies at York University. As both a talented performer and a high-achieving student, Nick was awarded the Mary Alice Stuart scholarship through JazzFM91 this past summer, and also performs regularly throughout Southern Ontario in a wide variety of groups from jazz to classical to rock and folk. Born in Toronto, Ewen Farncombe has studied piano since the age of 14 - with an earlier musical history that included guitar, saxophone, and flute. While at Rosedale Heights, he joined a number of musical groups and enjoyed visiting New Orleans, meeting Doc Adams and hearing Jeff Beck and Ron Carter, among others. Ewen has studied formally with Steve Koven, and presently with Brian Rudolf. He loves improvising and has played in ensemble workshops that included Kirk MacDonald, Lorne Lofsky, and Barry Romberg. There is an $8 cover.
