NYC: LOONY - FRENCH VAUDEVILLE AT THE MET

Six young professional artists from Light Opera of New York present LOONY - French Vaudeville at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Saturday, June 21st at 4:00 pm. The show is a comically zany tour through the vaudeville houses of 19th century Paris, arguably the birthplace of operetta. Repertoire you think you don't know, but you'll recognize it when you hear it! No time to brush up on your francais? Tremblez pas - they will sing enough English for you to get the jokes!Light Opera of New York was founded in 2006 as a professional, not-for-profit company devoted to the performance of staged operettas and operetta concerts. Our performances have won the hearts of audiences and critics alike, and our young, stouthearted company attracts first rate talent to its roster, as well as important financial support from organizations such as the Victor Herbert Foundation and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. There si a $30 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: STEARNS MATTHEWS PRESENTS A "SNEAK PEEK" OF HIS DEBUT ALBUM

Stearns Matthews, three-time MAC Award nominee, will bring his show "Sneak Peek" to THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Saturday, June 21st at 4:30 pm. Stearns has appeared twice at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Annual Cabaret Convention at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and was the first-ever first runner-up in the Metropolitan Room's MetroStar Talent Challenge in 2008. After raising $17,000 in a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2013, Stearns has been hard at work with musical director Christopher Denny and producer Paul Rolnick on producing his debut album, due out in the autumn of 2014. But Stearns just couldn't stand to wait that long to unveil the arrangements on the album - that's where SNEAK PEEK comes in. The show will feature some (not all this is just a peek!) of the songs from the album as well as a few tunes that didn't make the cut due to time constraints. Consider this the "Special Features" section on the DVD: bits from the cutting room floor, commentary from the artist, and an all-around good time. Theatre composers Stephen Schwartz, Richard Rodgers, and Harold Arlen will all be represented, as well as some from the popular end of the spectrum, like Roger Miller, Burt Bacharach, and Don Gibson. Crafted together with Christopher Denny, the arrangements are at times lush and romantic, at others rousing and exhilarating. Lennie Watts directs. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
