Pierre Chambers, Lisa Herbert, and Mitch Ellis will perform at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Friday & Saturday, June 20th & 21st at 9:00 pm. The vocal trio have struck a mother lode of unique and exhilarating musical material through exhuming, creatively re-working, and re-inventing works of legendary jazz artists through the nearly lost art of "vocalese": assigning what would generally be considered instrumental riffs to the human voice. Creating an impact reminiscent of The Manhattan Transfer, the group's repertoire pays homage to the vocal treatments of Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, many of which were themselves based on Ellington or Basie big band arrangements. Their popularity continues to increase as word of mouth spreads, and the "buzz" surrounding them is well-deserved.
