NYC: "THE ENSEMBLIST" WITH NIKKA GRAFF LANZARONE & MO BRADY

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents "The Ensemblist" live on the historic stage at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) on Monday, June 16 at 7pm. The Ensemblist, the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out, comes to the legendary Birdland Jazz Club to celebrate its first anniversary with a special live show! Hosts Mo Brady and Nikka Graff Lanzarone have invited some of their favorite Broadway performers to the stage to celebrate their ensemblist experiences. Not only will each guest be interviewed live, they'll strut their stuff with special performances as well! Guests include: Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, Ariana Debose, Rachel Bay Jones, Alysha Umphress, Daniel Watts, and a special appearance by The Skivvies: Nick Cearley and Lauren Molina. Mo Brady made his Broadway debut as the pumpkin pants-clad Conquistador in The Addams Family, where he also covered the role of Lucas Bieneke. On the second season of NBC's SMASH, he played Gabe, one of the performers in Hit List. Los Angeles native Nikka Graff Lanzarone first burst onto the Broadway scene as Marisa (the icy fiance with a penchant for gazpacho and super long naps) in Lincoln Center Theater's production of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. She also had the extraordinary honor to play Velma Kelly in the current revival of Chicago on Broadway. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

NYC: BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS: ANDY BEY - SOLO

Andy Bey will perform solo at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592 - ) on Monday, June 16th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Bey has been hailed as a cultural phenomenon, and has been applauded by the tastemakers of contemporary music. From Pharrell Williams to Mos Def, and Jamie Cullum, Andy Bey has become an icon for the next generation, many of whom attend his performances not only for the pure pleasure, but also for enlightenment at the feet of a master. On his CD release Ain't Necessarily So Bey brought the energy of live performance to compositions by the gods of American Songwriting. Andy Bey will have a new, Solo CD, to be released on HighNote Records June, 2013. "The World According To Andy Bey," will surely be a treasure the world will embrace. Insiders have always known about Andy Bey. Given his limited output of studio recordings, live performances were the source of Bey's reputation as singer. Andy Bey's live performance makes the point that the best performers raise the standards by drawing more from a song than the obvious. At 67 Andy Bey is one of the last major performers with a personal connection to the era. But he refuses to be bound by precedent. He invests these eight songs with an accumulation of musical sensibilities that make them sound as if they were born yesterday. The songs may be standards, but the interpretations are by no means routine. There is a $20-$35 cover.
