CHICAGO: JEFF DEAN PRESENTS "JOHNNY MERCER: DREAM" AT THE SKOKIE
Jeff Dean brings his show "Johnny Mercer: Dream" toTHE SKOKIE THEATRE (7924 Lincoln Avenue, Skokie, IL - 847-677-7761) on Thursday, March 10th at 8:00 pm. The show is part of a mini-Mercer celebration that historian Charles Troy and Jeff have planned. Troy's multimedia presentation entitled "The Just-Too-Marvelous Johnny Mercer" was presented on March 1st & 2nd. Describing the Georgia-born lyricist is no easy task. He wrote 1500 songs along side 230 different composers, songs so versatile and adaptable that it's hard to imagine they all came from the same man. Compare the hillbilly slang of any song from "Li'l Abner" to the brooding "One For My Baby," and the hip "Satin Doll" to the poetic "Days of Wine and Roses". Joining Jeff is musical director Beckie Menzie, doubling as Johnny's wife, Ginger. There is a $22 cover.
