NYC: THE FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CABARET FESTIVAL GALA
METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) hosts the FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CABARET FESTIVAL GALA on Wednesday, February 17th at 7:00 pm, with Anita Gillette, Andrea Marcovicci, Steve Ross and Barbara Carroll and featuring JayCee Driesen, and Jean Brassard. Musical Director: Jeff Franzel. The Gala Event precedes four great nights of the best cabaret in the world, and presents the 2016 Inductions in the newly instituted Cabaret Hall of Fame. Performers to be honored (and scheduled to appear) are Marilyn Maye, Andrea Marcovicci, Steve Ross, and Barbara Carroll, and honored (posthumously) Bobby Short, Nancy LaMott, Jan Wallman, and Julie Wilson. Cabaret Scenes Magazine is sponsoring/producing the first International Cabaret Festival, Wednesday, February 17th through Saturday, February 21st, with dozens of performers at clubs across NYC, coming together to celebrate the unique art of cabaret. Clubs participating in the inaugural 2016 International Cabaret Festival are: Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Feinstein's/54 Below, Iridium, Joe's Pub, Metropolitan Room and The Triad. The Cabaret Hall of Fame is the brainchild of Bernie Furshpan and Joseph Macchia of Metropolitan Room. The goal of the Cabaret Hall of Fame is to preserve the history and contributions of those who have established and fulfilled the promise of live entertainment in a cabaret setting, and have brought joy to millions over the many years of its existence. In the works, as well, are the establishment of a cabaret archive at the Library of Congress and a traveling display of memorabilia of all things cabaret. There is a $45 cover plus a 2-drink minimum for the Gala on the 17th.
