Kate Pazakis and Bradley Bredeweg present "Romeo & Juliet: Love is a Battlefield" at ROCKWELL: TABLE & STAGE (1714 Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA - 323-669-1550) on Thursday & Friday, March 19th & 20th at 8:00 pm. At last! The world's most famous playwright meets lycra-clad '80s rock star Pat Benatar. An epic collaboration centuries in the making, Romeo + Juliet: Love Is a Battlefield features Nickelodeon star Ashley Argota as Juliet and hunky singer/actor Rustin Cole Sailors as Romeo as they belt out some of Benatar's biggest hits to tell the timeless story of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers. A delightfully upbeat twist to the classic story, the modern adaptation will both move you to tears and make you want to move your feet at Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Feliz. There is a $20-$45 cover.
LOS ANGELES: WARREN DELANGE: "SWINGIN' THE DREAM"
Warren DeLange pays tribute to his father, Eddie Delange, in his show "Swingin the Dream" at THE GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444) on Thursday, March 19th at 9:00 pm. Songs include "Darn that Dream," "String of Pearls," Solitude," "Moonglow," "Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans." Eddie DeLange was the lyricist for such songs as Solitude, Moonglow, Darn That Dream, String Of Pearls, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans and countless others. The shows title "Swingin' The Dream" refers to an actual Broadway musical written by Eddie DeLange which, at the time of it's production, was the most lavish and expensive one produced to that date. Of course many have long-since past it's budget and then some. Luckily, Warren has the voice and presence to pull off a show such as this and will be joined by local Joel Baker on piano. There are even a few film clips and photos from the big band and swing days when his father worked with all the greats of the time. Call for cover/minimum information.
LOS ANGELES: JAQUI NAYLOR RETURNS TO CATALINA JAZZ CLUB
Jazz vocalist Jaqui Naylor returns to CATALINA JAZZ CLUB (6725 West Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA - 323-466-2210 - ) on Thursday, March 19th at 8:00 pm. Naylor is a rare artist, known as well for her own compositions as she is for her sensitive treatment of jazz standards. A master at bringing multiple generations and genres together through song, the artist has garnered much fame through the arranging technique she calls "acoustic smashing," where she successfully sings the lyrics and melody of a jazz standard over the groove of a well known rock or pop anthem. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum or dinner.
