PALM SPRINGS: JACK BETTS IN "ON MY WAY HERE" IN PALM DESERT

Actor, singer, playwright and director Jack Betts will make his debut appearance at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731) on Sunday, August 3rd at 2:00 pm in a one-man mini-musical biography of his long and successful career in "On My Way Here". The show is part of Les Michael's Sundays In Summer Series. The show will touch on Betts more than 5 decades as a leading man and guest star in film, stage, and television productions. Joined by Los Angeles musical director Ron Snyder on the baby grand piano, Jack will being singing songs that will showcase his dramatic as well as comedic sides. There is an $11 cash cover

LOS ANGELES: KRITZERLAND: TRIBUTE TO FEMALE SONGWRITERS!

Kritzerland Upstairs at Sterling's presents a "Tribute To Female Songwriters" on Sunday, August 3rd at 7:00 pm at STERLING'S AT THE FEDERAL (5303 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA - 818-754-8700). As always, the cast includes some of the best voices in town, including Dan Callaway, Jennifer Kranz, Heather Lee, Lisa Livesay and Shannon Warne. Special Guest: Kay Cole and Music Director: Tom Griep. For the 48th Kritzerland show they present a salute to some incredible female lyricists of the musical theatre, mostly Carolyn Leigh, the brilliant lyricist of such Broadway shows as Little Me, Wildcat, Peter Pan and others, as well as such classic pop songs as "Witchcraft" and "The Best Is Yet to Come," as well as other great female lyricists like Lynn Ahrens (Once on this Island, Ragtime, Seussical), Carol Hall (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas), Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden), Gretchen Cryer (I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking it on the Road), Fran Landesman (The Nervous Set, "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most"), Amanda McBroom ("The Rose", Heartbeats) and Carole Bayer Sager (They're Playing Our Song). Kritzerland's Bruce Kimmel has recorded many of the lyricists above and has chosen the usual Kritzerland colorful and eclectic program, a mix of the well-known and the unknown. Cover charge $15 plus $10 food minimum plus a $4 facility charge.

SAN FRANCISCO: JIM CAMPILONGO TRIO AT YOSHI'S

Prolific guitarist Jim Campilongo will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Sunday, August 3rd at 7:00 pm. The prolific Bammie winner Campilongo has been a formidable presence as a guest on dozens of recordings by other artists as well, including a contribution to Cake's million-selling Prolonging the Magic to (most recently) providing lead guitar for Martha Wainwright, Teddy Thompson and the Little Willies, Campilongo's band with Norah Jones. He's performed or recorded alongside JJ Cale, Nels Cline, Pete Townsend, Bright Eyes, Burning Spear, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings and Peter Rowan to name a few. There is a $21 cover.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: OPERATION OPERA AT FEINSTEIN'S

Operation Opera, the MAC Award-winning super hit of the Edinburgh Festival, will perform a limited two-week engagement at FEINSTEIN'S AT THE NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 866-663-1063) Thursdays through Sundays, July 31st through August 10th. Thursday & Friday shows are at 8:00 pm and Saturday & Sunday shows at 7:00 pm. Starring renowned opera singer Adelmo Guidarelli, and featuring Miss Ruby Laurance and Seth Weinstein, Operation Opera delights audiences with virtuoso operatic singing and paralyzes them with laughter while taking an inspiring journey into a world of music and comedy that critics have compared to Victor Borge. A fun-filled cross between tradition and innovation, Operation Opera enchants audiences with its edgy, sometimes sexy, song-filled modern day extravaganza of classical comedy. There is a $35-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.
