NJ: LUNA STAGE PRESENTS BLUES IN THE NIGHT
LUNA STAGE (555 Valley Road, West Orange, NJ - 973-395-5551) continues its new Jazz series, Music In The Moonlight, on Sunday, May 20th at 7:00 pm with BLUES IN THE NIGHT, a celebration of the Blues-tinged Jazz of Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman, by acclaimed Guitarist Bob DeVos and Tenor Saxophonist Eric Alexander, with Pianist Dave Braham. Famed saxophonists Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman combined jazz with blues and soul. Both played in the Ray Charles Band in the late '50s and early '60s Hank was the musical director and they both, sadly, died within days of each other in January 2009. Acclaimed guitarist, composer, and arranger Bob DeVos played with David "Fathead" Newman at many clubs, festivals and concerts, including "An Organ Summit Supreme," where Bob was the musical director. Mr. DeVos and Hank Crawford enjoyed a long musical and personal friendship. Eric Alexander has received enormous critical acclaim. Pianist Dave Braham toured throughout the '80s with Houston Person and Etta Jones, has recorded as a sideman with Lou Donaldson, Mark Murphy, Houston Person and Al Grey, and has performed with David "Fathead" Newman, Arthur Prysock, Irene Reid, Bernard Purdie, Jimmy Ponder and many others. Blues in the Night is the final of three concerts that Luna Stage has presented this season as part of their new jazz series. Tickets are $18.
