NYC: "FREEDOM SONGS" WITH NATALIE DOUGLAS
On Monday April 16th at 7:00 pm, critically acclaimed Nightlife, Bistro & seven time MAC Award winner Natalie Douglas returns to her favorite perch at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) as part of Jim Caruso's Broadway at Birdland series with an all new concert, Freedom Songs, celebrating the joyful union of music & civil rights' activism with her longtime musical director, Mark Hartman (Sondheim on Sondheim, Avenue Q) and her band of Broadway All-Stars (Mark Hartman - piano, Saadi Zain - bass & Joe Choroszewski - drums). Freedom Songs highlights the songs of the fight for equality for all people regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc. by artists such Sir Paul McCartney, Woody Guthrie, Dr. Nina Simone, Abbey Lincoln, Lena Horne, Helen Reddy and more. Come hear their songs (including "Blackbird," "Now!," "Mississippi Goddam," "Freedom Day," & "I Am Woman") & explore the hope, the struggle, the joy & the music of our ever-changing world. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
