NYC: SUNDAY OPEN MIC BRUNCH AT THE MET

Sunday Open Mic comes to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on the 2nd & 4th Sundays each month from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm (signup ay 11:30 am). Presented and hosted by Susan Winter and Deb Berman, the "OPEN MIC AT THE MET" is not your average Open Mic since it will be presented on the iconic stage, with amazing acoustics, high-end equipment, and experienced sound engineer to help create a concert-like experience in Metropolitan Room's friendly, warm environment. Each Open Mic offers different pianists to accompany your performance. There is a $15 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. 

NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, returns with her Sunday Jazz Brunch on August 11th at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a French restaurant in the heart of Soho. They will play three sets from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. She will be joined by Saul Rubin on guitar and Pat O'Leary on bass in this charming boite that offers a great, well-priced menu and cozy atmosphere. Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal following through her unique take on material from the new American songbook as well as classic standards by artists as varied as Pink Floyd and Duke Ellington, Dolly Parton and Johnny Mercer. A trained actor, Gabrielle has a soulful sensitivity for the story in the lyric. Gabrielle has performed on stages from Amsterdam to New York including Carnegie Hall, Iridium Jazz Club, Birdland, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Reservations are strongly suggested. No cover, no minimum.

NYC: DESMOND'S "JAZZ BRUNCH" WITH JERRY COSTANZO & HIS TRIO

DESMOND'S STEAKHOUSE (513 Seventh Avenue, NYC - 212-391-6900) presents 'Jazz Brunch' every Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm with Jerry Costanzo & His Trio, with special guests weekly. Dine on their very special and affordable brunch menu while enjoying the best of jazz, swing and "The Great American Song Book". NYC: JAZZ BRUNCH: BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS: ERIC ALEXANDER & HAROLD MABERN TRIO

The Blue Note Jazz Festival presents Eric Alexander & Harold Mabern Trio on Sunday, June 8th with shows at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm at THE BLUE NOTE(131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592). Eric Alexander started piano lessons at the age of six. He took up the clarinet at nine and switched to alto sax three years later. The tenor sax became his obsession at Indiana University Bloomington (1986-87). After transferring to William Paterson College in New Jersey he studied with Harold Mabern, Joe Lovano, Rufus Reid, and others. In 2004, Eric signed an exclusive contract with HighNote Records, an independent jazz label based in New York City. There he has amassed a considerable discography of critically acclaimed recordings. Most recent among them is "Don't Follow the Crowd," and "Friendly Fire" with Vincent Herring. Harold Mabern, one of jazz's most enduring and dazzlingly skilled pianists, was born in Memphis, a city that produced saxophonists George Coleman and Charles Lloyd, pianist Phineas Newborn Jr. and trumpeter Booker Little. He was an unsung hero of the 1960s hardbop scene, performing and recording with many of its finest artists, and only in recent years has he begun to garner appreciation for his long-running legacy in jazz and the understated power of his talent. TORONTO: SUNDAY BRUNCH WITH ARLENE SMITH & MARK EISENMAN

Arlene Smith will perform atTHE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299 ) on Sunday, June 8th with sets from 12:30 to 2:30 pm as part of the clubs Sunday Jazz Brunch series. Revered for her sophisticated approach that always gets to the heart of a lyric, Arlene Smith's lush contralto voice has made her one of the Toronto club scene's best-loved singers ever since she relocated here in the early '90s. The seasoned vocalist spent two decades playing to packed houses and critical acclaim in New York and her native Montreal. In Toronto, she immediately became an important 'regular' on the performance rosters at revered jazz venues including The Montreal Bistro and Top O' The Senator, and continues to impress jazz audiences wherever she performs today. Arlene will be joined by one of this country's finest pianists, Mark Eisenman. There is a $12 cover.
