LONDON: ONE-OFF GUEST NIGHT: JULIA GRAY AT CRAZY COQS

Julia Gray will appear at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) on Monday, June 9th at 8:00 pm with songs from her CD 'Robber Bride', a collaboration with award-winning South African producer Paul Ressel and recorded with the support of The Arts Council. Robber Bride (which takes its name from the novel by Margaret Atwood) is a collection of interpretations of stories taken from movies, poetry and classical mythology. Retold as songs, the stories bear Julia Gray's musical influences of Kate Bush, Blossom Dearie, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. Julia will be joined on the night by bassist Mark Rose and percussionist Guillaume Charreau, and will be giving away free copies of the album to those in attendance. After training in both classical and contemporary singing and beginning her performing career at the Kashmir Klub, Julia Gray spent seven years as part of the trip-hop/jazz collective Second Person, playing a residency at Pizza on the Park and releasing three albums. She then returned to acoustic music; her first solo album, produced by Tristan Ivemy (Frank Turner), was released in 2011. She has written for television and film, has performed at Bestival, the Tabernacle, Bush Hall and the Union Chapel among many other places, and performs regularly at the legendary Troubadour. Call for cover/minimum information.
