BOSTON: THE HOLMES BROTHERS AT SCULLERS

The Holmes Brothers - Wendell Holmes (guitarist/ pianist/ vocalist/ songwriter), Sherman Holmes (bassist/ vocalist/ songwriter) and brother-in-spirit Popsy Dixon (drummer/ vocalist) - are true treasures of American roots music. TORONTO: LATIN NIGHT: ELMER FERRER TRIO

Cuban-Canadian Elmer Ferrer will perform with his trio at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Wednesday, May 7th at 8:00 pm. Ferrer is widely recognized as one of the world`s premiere guitarists. An extremely versatile and prolific session musician, Elmer has recorded and toured the globe with many of Cuba's top producers and artists. As a producer, arranger, session acoustic or electric guitarist, Ferrer has contributed to more than 100 music recordings, including two Latin Grammy nominee albums, a Goya awarded movie soundtrack, and recently, the latest CD from Italian superstar Zucchero, "La Sesion Cubana". Elmer Ferrer currently resides in Toronto Canada, but his Cuban roots formed the foundation of his energy rich blend of Jazz, Rock, and Blues. He was born into a musical family in Sancti Spiritus, a small city that holds one of the strongest histories in Cuban traditional music. He started to play and study guitar at the age of 12, and graduated Classical Guitar at the prestigious National School of Arts in Havana at age 18. Elmer also has an established career as a composer and solo performer. He is a two-time Cubadisco* awarded artist, and is leader of the Elmer Ferrer Band (EFB). Known for captivating audiences and critics alike, the EFB has headlined international jazz, blues and music festivals, and shared stage line-ups with Keb Mo, Johnny Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Kid Rock, the Chris Duarte Group, Los Lobos and the Derek Trucks Band. There is a $12 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: BENNY SHARONI AT BLUES ALLEY

Benny Sharoni will appear atBLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141 - ) on Wednesday, May 7th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Growing up on the kibbutz in Benny Sharoni MusicIsrael, there was always music in Benny Sharoni's home. His parents emigrated from Chile and Yemen, so between them Benny was heavily influenced by Latin and African-based music and rhythms. Both parents truly love music and encouraged him at an early age to study classical flute. Blessed with an extreme free spirit,he sought out a musical form that broke beyond the constraints of classical music. It was there that he found jazz the freest and most expressive music out there. Call for cover/minimum information.

BETHESDA, MD: BEN REDWINE & THE DIRTY RICE BAND

Ben Redwine & The Dirty Rice Band will perform atBETHESDA BLUES & JAZZ SUPPER CLUB (7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD - 240-330-4500) on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:30 pm. Ben Redwine and the Dirty Rice Band present old time New Orleans jazz with modern sensibilities. The band is anchored by John Previti, bass, accompanied by Tom Mitchell on guitar and vocals, kept together by Jack O'Dell on drums, with the fabulous front line of Vince McCool, trumpet, John Jensen, trombone, and led by clarinetist Ben Redwine. There is a $15 cover.
