TORONTO: YOUNG ARTIST SERIES: SAM POMANTI

18 year-old Toronto keyboardist and singer Sam Pomanti will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Thursday through Saturday, April 10th, 11th & 12th at 6:00 pm as part of the club's Young Artist Series. Born into a musical family, Sam grew up listening to the music of Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Tower of Power and Joni Mitchell, among others, that would often be playing in the house. Taking up the piano when he was 11, Sam started learning the songs he would hear his father (Lou Pomanti) playing. Time passed, and Sam got further into music, starting several bands throughout high school and playing at various locations in Ontario. Now at Humber College for music, Pomanti is taking advantage of the abundance of great musicians found there. Playing around Toronto often, at venues like The Orbit Room and The Drake Underground with his popfunk band Vibrosis, Sam is focused on bringing more music to the Toronto scene. There is no cover charge.

TORONTO: MARC JORDAN - "ON A PERFECT DAY"

Songwriter/vocalist Mark Jordon will perform with his band at THE JAZZ BISTRO(251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Friday & Saturday, April 11th & 12th at 9:00 pm. Band members include Marc Jordan - vocals, guitar, Dave Restivo - piano, Russ Boswell - bass, Mark Lalama - accordion, keyboards and Kevan McKenzie - drums. Marc's style has been described as hypnotic and poetic. And while Marc has developed a reputation as songwriter to the stars - with such high-profile artists such as Rod Stewart, Natalie Cole and Josh Groban covering his material - no one sings Marc's songs like Marc himself. To be in the room when that happens is not a frequent enough occurrence for the insiders who have been committed fans for decades. There is a $20 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: CYRUS CHESTNUT TRIO AT BLUES ALLEY

Pianist Cyrus Chestnut will appear at BLUES ALLEY(1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, April 10th through 13th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Chestnut appeals to both aficionados and fans alike. Adept enough to perform with Wynton Marsalis, yet hip enough to make the "Peanuts" album swing. Chestnut worked with a number of top-notch musicians including Jon Hendricks, Betty Carter, Terence Blanchard, and Donald Harrison, before recording his first solo CD at the age of 30. Chestnut enjoys mixing styles and resists being typecast in any one niche, though his gospel sound is apparent on a number of his recordings. Call for cover/minimum information.
