ERIC MICHAEL GILLETT TO RECEIVE 2011 JEFF MATSON AWARD

---------------
ERIC MICHAEL GILLETT TO RECEIVE 2011 JEFF MATSON AWARD
---------------
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is happy to announce that this year's JEFF MATSON AWARD will be presented to Eric Michael Gillett! The JEFF MATSON AWARD, presented annually by CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE at our birthday shows, was created to honor the memory of songwriter/ writer/ director/ producer/ graphic designer Jeff Matson, who passed away suddenly on April 2, 2005 from a rare blood disorder. He shared his talents with all who asked, and mentored many performers who have come to be major forces in the cabaret community including Annie Hughes, Richard Skipper, Quinn Lemley, Miles Phillips, Sue Matsuki (just to name a few). He also wrote - very briefly - as a reviewer for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

We're also happy to note that the very first recipient of the JEFF MATSON AWARD - DC Anderson - is also one of the performers in this year's show.

Tickets are now on sale for the 21st BIRTHDAY PARTY of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE on July 6th at 7:00 pm at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN. Other performers for the show in addition to Mr. Gillett and Mr. Anderson, are Raissa Katona Bennett, Baby Jane Dexter, Sammy Goldstein, Peggy Herman, Tanya Holt, Sue Matsuki, Karen Oberlin, Craig Pomranz and Marta Sanders. Tracy Stark will serve as musical director. We have one - and maybe two surprise performers that won't be revealed until the night of the show. As with all live entertainment events, performers are subject to change without notice.

Full details on the party can be found on the website, including a link to order tickets - JUST CLICK HERE

NYC: ERIC MICHAEL GILLETT: CAST OF THOUSANDS AT THE BEECHMAN = MUST SEE CABARET

NYC: ERIC MICHAEL GILLETT: CAST OF THOUSANDS AT THE BEECHMAN

MAC Award-winning vocalist and Broadway performer Eric Michael Gillett brings his acclaimed show "Cast of Thousands" featuring the music of Craig Carnelia, to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909)  Wednesday, June 29th at 7:00 pm. Cast of Thousands weaves a rich tapestry of song, as Gillett enacts the lives of the thousands of people with whom we interact every day, but may never come to know. Now, 15 years after it was first performed, Gillett returns to the material that inspired his first songbook collaboration, in an evening that explores not only songs from the original production, but also new material written by Carnelia in the intervening years. The show incorporates songs from the acclaimed scores Is There Life After High School, Working and Three Postcards, as well as contemporary cabaret classics such as Flight and Life on Earth, and new material from Actor, Lawyer, Indian Chief. There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: "AN EVENING WITH BETTYE LAVETTE" AT CAFE CARLYLE THROUGH JUNE 3rd

NYC: "AN EVENING WITH BETTYE LAVETTE" AT CAFE CARLYLE

THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-744-1600 - ) welcomes R&B legend Betty LaVette to the legendary club in a rare New York appearance, Tuesday, May 24th through Friday, June 3rd. Performances are Tuesday through Friday at 8:45 pm and Saturday (May 28th only) at 8:45 and 10:45 pm. Ms. LaVette will showcase her inimitable style, gut wrenching vocals and songs from throughout her five decade career in a soul-shattering evening. She'll be accompanied by a band led by her musical director Alan Hill. Bettye LaVette has been honing her skills since her first single was released at the tender age of 16 in 1962. Yet it wasn't until four decades later when she was signed to Anti-Records in 2004 that Bettye began to garner a wide audience. Before that, she seemed to be the best kept secret in the world of rhythm & blues. With the release of My Own Hell to Raise in 2005 and the follow up, Scene of the Crime out in 2007, public awareness of Bettye began to grow. As a result, she was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2008. Hers was such a riveting performance the producers of the show proceeded to ask Bettye to sing at President Obama's Inaugural Celebration in front of the world. There is a $65 cover ($40, bar) for the Tuesday-Thursday performances and a $75 cover ($50, bar) for the Friday & Saturday performances. Dinner (required) is served from 6:30 pm.
