Peggy Herman makes her much-anticipated return to the New York cabaret stage with a new show, "Herman on Herman ... with a Touch of Merman" to be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Directed by Peter Glebo and Tommy Tune, with music director Alex Rybeck on piano, "Herman on Herman ... " will be presented on Saturday through Monday, May 14th through 16th at 7:00 pm and on Sunday, June 5th at 4:00 pm. Herman has appeared at Town Hall, and such fabled Manhattan nightspots as The Firebird Cafe, The King Kong Room, and Eighty Eights. Her career was launched at sea, where she performed on five-star cruise ships with Cunard, Royal Viking, Oceania, and Crystal Cruise Lines. This in turn led to a nightclub career, during which she opened for Phyllis Diller at Miami Beach's Fontainebleau Hotel, and, later on, for Bob Hope, Alan King and Milton Berle. NYC: WESLA WHITFIELD & MIKE GREENSILL AT METROPOLITAN ROOM

Wesla Whitfield will debut her new show, "Best Things In Life" to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Tuesdays through Sundays, May 31st through Sunday, June 12th, all shows at 7:00 pm. She is joined by her pianist and arranger Mike Greensill, and by John Vitala on bass, and Vince Lateano on drums, as she conjures smiles, tears and laughter on a timeless journey through the Great American Songbook. The combo will breathe new life into such classics as "The Best Things In Life Are Free," "You Must Believe In Spring," "Walkin' After Midnight," "Bein' Green," and "I'm Confessin' (That I Love You)" among others. Addressing the challenging times of the present moment, Mike and Wesla focus on the struggles and triumphs being experienced by nearly everyone in 2011. Drawing their material as always from the Great American songbook, the evening has been crafted to include familiar standards such as "The Best Things In Life Are Free" and "Smiling Through" interspersed with a few unexpected musical selections, taking the listener on an introspective journey both uplifting and fun. There is a $20 cover plus a 2 drink minimum.
