NYC: SHEPLEY METCALF: GOING PLACES - AT THE MET

Shepley Metcalf and Ron Roy return to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM(34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:00 pm with a new show, GOING PLACES, a tour from Rhode Island to the Riviera, and beyond, via song. The duo will take you from London to New York to New Orleans, and from heartache to hilarity, with music by Joni Mitchell, Johnny Mercer, Stephen Sondheim, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Cole Porter, and other terrific songwriters. GOING PLACES explores travel in all its guises, and journeys by plane, by train, and by automobile. Metcalf and Roy presented "The Songs of Fran Landesman + Simon Wallace" at the Metropolitan Room in 2010. The show earned favorable reviews, and as did their album of these songs. In 2013 Shepley released "The Songs of Laura Nyro," an 8-song album recorded live at the Metropolitan Room with Janice Friedman on piano, Jim Whitney on bass, and Willard Dyson on drums. And last fall Metcalf and Roy celebrated their new album, "Don't Bother to Knock," little-known gems unearthed from the Great American Songbook, at (where else?) the Metropolitan Room. Roy is on the faculty at The Boston Conservatory and at The Tuscany Project, a vocal workshop held each summer in Italy. He and Metcalf met at The Tuscany Project (she was a student), and the Boston-based duo have performed together since 2008. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: MAKE YOUR OWN FUN WITH MARY FOSTER CONKLIN AND AMY ENGELHARDT

Mary Foster Conklin and Amy Engelhardt, two of New York City's most unique cabaret artists, will appear at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE(61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) to make their own fun on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:00 pm. An award winning songwriter, Amy's cheeky rock score for 'Bastard Jones' (developed with a NAMT grant, workshopped last fall and off-off-Bway in 2016) was a Top 10 Finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award, the Eugene O'Neill Theater Conference and the Alec Baldwin Fellowship (the strangest trifecta ever). NYC: THE VAUDEVILLIANS: BRINGING UP BABY

After selling out an often-extended Off-Broadway run in 2013 (which attracted the likes of Neil Patrick Harris, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Joan Rivers, RuPaul and SNL's Kate McKinnon), a national tour, a 3-month Australian tour (where she was nominated for the Aussie equivalent of a Tony Award), and a summer run in Provincetown, RuPaul's Drag Race favorite Jinkx Monsoon will return to New York with the World Premiere of THE VAUDEVILLIANS: BRINGING UP BABY, a new musical comedy co-starring composer and musician Major Scales. This limited engagement begins performances May 21st at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909). Performances are on Wednesday & Friday, June 3rd & 5th at 7:00 pm. Dr. Dan and Kitty Witless were put on ice in the Twenties, and had their entire music catalogue purloined by today's pop artists. Now the hottest act ever frozen alive is back again, with more swinging hits from their stolen songbook! There's only one problem: Kitty's "in a family way" and no one's quite sure where the kid came from. Can The Vaudevillians still put on a show while bringing up baby? Major Scales is the evil twin of Richard Andriessen, a musician, writer and performer based in Seattle. He has written everything from award-winning New York shows on the east coast to music for amateur adult films on the west. Jinkx Monsoon is the alter ego of Jerick Hoffer, who graduated with a degree in theatrical performance from Cornish College in Seattle. With ten years experience on stage, Hoffer is a seasoned Portland-born entertainer who has captured the attention of his native northwest region. As early as 2006, Hoffer appeared as the lead dancer in the world's largest drag queen chorus line, which made the Guinness Book of World Records. By 2012, he had advanced to roles in Seattle theaters, playing Moritz in "Spring Awakening" (produced by Balagan Theatre), Angel in "Rent" (produced by The 5th Avenue Theatre), and Hedwig in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (produced by Balagan Theatre and Seattle Theatre Group). In 2014 he was nominated for the Helpmann Award (alongside the likes of Cate Blanchett, Ivo Van Hove, Denis O'Hare and Baz Luhrmann), the Australian equivalent of a Tony, for his performanace in The Vaudevillians. There is a $25-$50 cover plus a $20 food/drink minimum.

NYC: FROM THE HIP AT THE BEECHMAN

From the Hip, an irreverent comedy with songs about glamorous Siamese twin lounge singers trying to make it in 1960s Hollywood will be presented at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Wednesday, June 3rd at 9:30 pm. The twins triumph over everything from ageism and addiction to a shared rectum! NYC: THE CUTTING ROOM PRESENTS: SAMIA

18 year old Samia is a New York singer-songwriter will appear at THE CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Wednesday, June 3rd at 7:30 pm, Samia's style ranges from alternative pop/rock to r&b. Soon to release a debut album, she will be introducing a selection of new tunes with her band, SORRY, at her second Cutting Room NYC show. There is a $20 cover.

NYC: TURBINE ALBUM RELEASE PARTY FOR SHAKIN' OFF THE SHOCK FEATURING BIG RAILROAD

Turbine, a song-oriented jamband, deeply respected by its peers and the community will perform at THE CUTTING ROOM (44 East 32nd Street, NYC - 212-691-1900) on Wednesday, June 3rd at 9:30 pm. They are an established act that improvises ferociously and skillfully. The band has an unconventional musical history - changing instrumentation (the band began as a duo), and exploring different styles has made it hard to pigeonhole them. In a improv-centric scene they have put songwriting first. By taking this approach they have amassed a truly deep and varied catalogue of great material, all the while growing significantly as players. They have never backed away from their core beliefs that a song should stand the test of time and that an improvising band should take risks. The sound of the band has been consistent - it has always been based around Ryan Rightmire's unique experimental harmonica playing and Jeremy Hilliard's soulful, exploratory guitar and poetic songwriting. There is a $12 cover.

NYC: TURN THE BEAT AROUND: 54 BELOW CELEBRATES STUDIO 54

54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) commemorates the glory - and the decadence - that was STUDIO 54 on Wednesday, June 3rd with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. In the legendary club's heyday the guest list was a who's who from the world of entertainment - Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Halston, Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Diana Ross, Brooke Shields, John Travolta, Michael Jackson - and the music played kept them dancing all through the night. "Turn the Beat Around" will "Celebrate, Good Times" and salute Studio 54 from its opening night to the "Last Dance." 54 Below is even rolling out their dance floor for the occasion! Produced and directed by Scott Coulter the show features Cheryl Freeman (The Who's Tommy), Donna Vivino (Wicked, Saturday Night Fever), Mike Schwitter (Pippin), Blaine Krauss (The Lion King), Devin L. Roberts (Venice, The Lion King), Jessica Hendy (Radio City Spring Spectacular), Lennie Watts (MAC, Bistro Award winner), Willam Blake (Echoes of Etta), Tyce Green (54 Sings Chess), Mary Lane Haskell (54 Shares Cher), Brian Charles Rooney (Bedbugs, The Three Penny Opera), Susan Agin (Anything Goes: The Concert), Kelli Rabke (Les Miserables, Children of Eden), Will Porter (54 Sings The Act), and Justin Talkington (54 Sings Chess) and more. As with all live entertainment events, cast subject to change without notice. There is a $35-$75 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

Baby Dee is an enchanting song writer, classically trained harpist, circus sideshow veteran, and transgender street legend. Her infectious cackle and extraordinary talent on piano, harp and accordion have caught her many musical admirers including Will Oldham, Matt Sweeney, Maxim Moston, and Andrew WK, all of whom have produced unique and magnificent albums for her. NYC: JAZZ LEGEND ANNIE ROSS TUESDAYS THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: RAISING THE BAR WITH CAROL BERNSTEIN - THE CHANGING FACE OF THE WORKPLACE

Carol Bernstein, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, NYU School of Medicine, presents "The Changing Face Of The Workplace" at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 212-255-5438) on Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:30 pm. There are currently four generations in the workplace in the US. While differences between generations have been in play for centuries, longer life spans and a healthier population in the western world have meant that those in their 20s are working alongside those in their 60s and 70s far more routinely than has been true in the past. In addition, the communication transformation brought about by the world-wide web, cell phones, iPads and other digital devices have radically altered not only views of leadership, authority and work-life balance, but how individuals relate to each other. This presentation will focus on characteristics of the different generations: the World War II generation (1925-1945), the Baby Boomers (1946-1964), Generation X (1965- 1981) and the Millennials (1982-2000) and the challenges their different approaches bring to the medical environment of the 21st century. Dr. Bernstein has written numerous articles and chapters on psychiatric education, has presented at more than 70 conferences and meetings and has been the recipient of a number of visiting professorships. Dr. Bernstein also hosts a weekly call-in show for consumers on Sirius Radio's Doctor Radio Channel which is sponsored by the NYU Langone Medical Center. There is no cover and no drink minimum for this event. Reservations must be made via http://www.rtbevent.com - not available from The Duplex.

NYC: 54 SINGS AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'

54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) presents the next in their "54 Sings" series when 54 Sings the Best Musical Tony Award winner of 1978 "Ain't Misbehavin'!" on Tuesday, June 2nd with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. It will be an evening celebrating Black Broadway and the Harlem Renaissance, featuring Broadway's best. This musical revue with book by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr. features glorious music by various composers of the 1920s and 1930s, from "Honeysuckle Rose" to "The Joint Is Jumping." And this joint will be jumpin' to the sounds of "Squeeze Me," "The Viper's Drag," "Fat and Greasy," "Black And Blue," and many more brilliant tunes. Featuring: Aisha de Haas (Fame Becomes Her, Caroline Or Change, One Mo' Time, Rent), Melvin Abston (Sister Act, The CW's "Gotham"), Kenneth Green, Nikki Stephenson, Ashley Stroud, J. Bernard Calloway (Memphis, All The Way) with special appearance by Tony award winner Adriane Lenox (Doubt). There is a $35-$75 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

NYC: THE STEELDRIVERS AT JOE'S PUB

JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) presents The SteelDrivers on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:30 pm. Nashville, Tennessee is a nexus - a point where tradition and innovation intersect, where commerce collides with art. It may be the only town around where salaried songwriters and full-time session musicians are as common as accountants and schoolteachers. Music is the product, and the factories line the street, from the swank Music Row mini-high-rises to the low-slung Sylvan Park bungalows. And only Nashville could give birth to a band like the SteelDrivers: a group of seasoned veterans - each distinguished in his or her own right, each valued in the town's commercial community - who are seizing an opportunity to follow their hearts to their souls' reward. In doing so, they are braiding their bluegrass roots with new threads of their own design, bringing together country, soul, and other contemporary influences to create an unapologetic hybrid that is old as the hills but fresh as the morning dew. This is new music with the old feeling. There is a $20 cover.

NYC: EXPLORING JEWISH MUSIC WITH ZION80

Zion80 explores Jewish music - from Shlomo Carlebach to John Zorn and everything in between - through the lens of the Afrobeat funk master Fela Anikulapo Kuti at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE(425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Tuesdays June 2nd & 9th at 9:30 pm. Led by Jon Madof (Rashanim, Matisyahu), the 11-piece band arranges Jewish melodies using the polyrhythmic intensity of Afrobeat, blended with the madness of the Downtown scene. Madof's most ambitious project to date, Zion80 is blazing hot and tight as a drum. Spiritual, grooving and endlessly exciting, this is essential Jewish music for the 21st century. There is a $14 cover.

NYC: MICHAEL GARIN AND THE HABIBI KINGS AT CAFE NOCTAMBULO

Michael Garin and The Habibi Kings will perform at CAFE NOCTAMBULO AT PANGEA (178 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-995-0900) on Tuesdays, June 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th with sets from 9:00 pm. Michael has joined forces with Samir Shukry and Ossama Farouk in bringing this music to a wider audience as well as to add acoustic piano to the traditional sound and bring it to a new audience. With the Habibi Kings, he will have a chance to bring the Great Middle Eastern Songbook to the practitioners of the Great American Songbook. The music is sexy, danceable and pure fun. There is a $20 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.

NYC: ROBIN'S NEST - A BENEFIT FOR HELPUSADOPT.ORG
FEATURED CABARET BENEFIT EVENT

Host and Helpusadopt.org board member Robin Westle, headliner Karen Akers, special guest star Raissa Katona Bennett, who appeared as Christine in Phantom of the Opera and is a prolific presence in cabaret, and a group of favorite featured entertainers, Alison Grace Bradbury, Gero Eaton, and Leah Jennings Stephen Mitchell Brown, carefully hand-picked by Robin and Robin's Nest director, Eric Michael Gillett, present a night of song to benefit Helpusadopt.org at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00 pm. Helpusadopt.org is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) financial assistance grant program providing qualified couples and individuals - regardless of race, ethnicity, marital status, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability - with grants of up to $15,000 towards their domestic, international, foster, or special needs adoption expenses. Adoption is expensive. Statistics say that an average adoption costs upwards of $30,000. The magnitude and uncertainty of these expenses is a significant obstacle standing in the way of permanent homes for the more than 150 million children around the globe who need parents. Through the generous contributions of donors, Helpusadopt.org is able to assist others in overcoming the financial obstacles they face when seeking to adopt. Helpusadopt.org's average grant is approximately $8,500 and since the organization's launch in 2007, Helpusadopt.org has helped to build 134 families by awarding over $1,000,000 in total adoption grants. NYC: ERIC COMSTOCK & BARBARA FASANO RETURN TO METROPOLITAN ROOM

The popular husband-and-wife pop-jazz duo Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano return to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for a six-night major engagement opening on Monday, June 1st at 7:00 pm. Additional shows are Tuesday & Thursday, June 2nd & 4th; Wednesday, June 3rd at 9:30 pm and Monday & Tuesday, June 8th & 9th at 7:00 pm. Their new show, "Shoulder Season," is a swinging summer cocktail of lazy days, blue skies, and exotic lands. Reflecting the duo's well-traveled view of the pop and jazz songbooks "Shoulder Season" (the phrase is borrowed from the travel industry to describe the off-peak times between high seasons) covers ample ground, everything from Sinatra to Strayhorn to Springsteen. A crackling combination of warmth, wit, swing and sensuality, this celebrated husband-and-wife team toasted their 10th wedding anniversary last August. Honored as vocalists, recording artists, and writers of their numerous performance pieces, they received an impressive three MAC Awards in one year, including Vocal Duo of the Year, Outstanding Female Vocalist and Record of the Year. Fasano's fourth CD, "Busy Being Free" drops this fall. Comstock, a 2015 Bistro Award winner, is the co-creator and star of the long-running Off-Broadway hit revue "Our Sinatra," and recently released his fourth CD, "bitter/sweet." Their many New York engagements include Carnegie Hall, The Appel Room and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, Feinstein's, The Carlyle, Birdland, Jazz at Kitano, and the 92nd Street Y's "Lyrics and Lyricists" series. Across the country, they headline at Caramoor; Cooperstown Music Festival; Arizona Jazz Festival; Guild Hall in East Hampton; Sheldon Concert Hall and Jazz at The Bistro in St. Louis; Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston; Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, and The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach. They recently made their London debut at Crazy Coqs at Brasserie Z del. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
