NYC: DIZZY GILLESPIE ALL-STARS - FALL SUNDAY BRUNCH RESIDENCY

THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) presents the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars for a special Fall Sunday Brunch Residency. The band will perform brunch shows every Sunday with performances at 11:30 am & 1:30 pm, through December 28th. History has produced its share of great artists and great people - legendary jazz trumpeter John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was both. As a performer, he left behind an incredible record of innovation and inspiration; as a composer, a broad repository of musical masterpieces; and as a man, a legion of friends, colleagues and compatriots who remember him with the same degree of love and esteem they reserve for his work. Officially authorized by Lorraine Gillespie, and under the leadership of Dizzy's long-time bassist John Lee, a selection of ensembles of varying sizes were formed, featuring many of the wide variety of musicians who worked with Dizzy plus some newer talents from the jazz scene. Together they are working to continue the legacy of both the music and the personality of this great jazz master who had such a profound impact on twentieth century music. There is a $35 cover. **Price includes brunch, music and a drink.**

TORONTO: JAZZ BRUNCH WITH STEVE AMIRAULT

Steve Amirault, considered to be one of the most accomplished artists in Canada, will perform at THE JAZZ BISTRO (251 Victoria Street, Toronto, ONT, CA - 416-363-5299) on Saturday & Sunday, October 11th & 12th at 11:30 am as part of their Jazz Brunch series. The Nova Scotia-born musician has released five celebrated albums and is currently preparing his new recording, this time delving into timeless songs from the American popular songbook. His world-class piano playing, combined with his rich, soulful baritone voice, make Steve Amirault a performer not to be missed. A celebrated artist, Amirault has won the Montreal International Jazz Festival Competition, the Prix Opus (Album of the Year for his recording, "Breath"), and two Juno Awards (for collaborations with Fran•ois Carrier and Christine Jensen.) This dynamic performer has shared the stage with many great artists such as Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman and has recorded with Sheila Jordan and Eddie Gomez. Recently back from a 5-month solo contract in Japan and newly established in Toronto, Amirault will be performing his new repertoire of personalized standard songs and some original pieces from his last album, "One Existence."
