Dominic Aldiss sings and plays Cole Porter, accompanied by Alec Dankworth (bass) and Colin Oxley (guitar) at THE CRAZY COQS AT BRASSERIE ZEDEL (20 Sherwood St, Piccadilly, London W1F 7ED - 020 7734 4888) on Monday, January 27th at 8:00 pm. The urbane and sophisticated Dominic Alldis has built a unique musical career over 30 years, spanning the rich and varied musical worlds of classical music, jazz piano and cabaret singing. Equally at home with a conductor's baton in hand, performing with his jazz trio or entertaining an audience with songs at the piano, Dominic's fluency in many different musical languages and flair for bringing them together in a distinctive way puts him in a category all of his own. The piano-bass-guitar combo was pioneered by Nat King Cole, as well as the Oscar Peterson trio, both major influences on Dominic's piano playing. The show will include swinging and soulful interpretations of Porter's sophisticated and witty lyrics, including Night and Day, You Do Something To Me and It's Alright With Me, as well as cabaret songs by Dave Frishberg and Blossom Dearie, French songs by Michel Legrand and Brazilian songs by Tom Jobim. The Benny Golson Quartet (Benny Golson, saxophone; Mike LeDonne, piano; Buster Williams, bass; Carl Allen, drums) will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Friday through Sunday, January 24th through 26th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Born in 1929, saxophonist Benny Golson came up through the bands of Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey, and others. By the late 1950s, he and Art Farmer co-led the essential group The Jazztet. Many of Golson's compositions have become timeless standards, such as "I Remember Clifford" and "Stablemates," and he has maintained this high quality and reputation throughout his career as a leader in straight-ahead jazz. Golson now leads an all-star quartet, whose "stories from the past" continue to resonate with audiences today as they have throughout the greater part of the last century. Pat Martino and Eldar Djangirov will perform at THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121 - ) on Sunday, January 26th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm. Born Pat Azzara in Philadelphia, Pat Martino was first exposed to jazz through his father, Carmen "Mickey" Azzara, who sang in local clubs and briefly studied guitar with Eddie Lang. He took Pat to all the city's hot-spots to hear and meet Wes Montgomery and other musical giants. He began playing guitar when he was twelve years old. and left school in tenth grade to devote himself to music. During Visits to his music teacher Dennis Sandole, Pat often ran into another gifted student, John Coltrane, who would treat the youngster to hot chocolate as they talked about music. Today, Martino lives in Philadelphia again and continues to grow as a musician. His experiments with guitar synthesizers are taking him in the direction of orchestral arrangements and they promise groundbreaking possibilities. Musicians flock to his door for lessons, and he offers not only the benefits of his musical knowledge, but als o the philosophical insights of a man who has faced and overcome enormous obstacles. New York based pianist Eldar Djangirov was signed to Sony Masterworks at the age of 17, the young pianist from Kansas City was already well known for his prodigious pyrotechnics and precocious knowledge of the bebop tradition. Born on January 28, 1987, Eldar came to the U.S. from the former Soviet Union when he was ten. Among his first performances were in his hometown of Kansas City, as well as The Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. Eldar has appeared at numerous major jazz festivals including Tokyo Jazz Festival, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival, Vienna Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and San Francisco Jazz Festival and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. In a career spanning five decades, pianist Monty Alexander has built a reputation exploring the worlds of American jazz, popular song, and the music of his native Jamaica, finding in each a sincere spirit of musical expression. Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill brings his Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sundays at 9:00 & 11:00pm. Called the leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz", O'Farrill was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is the resident large format ensemble of the nonprofit Afro Latin Jazz Alliance (ALJA) founded by Arturo O'Farrill in 2007 and dedicated to preserving the music and heritage of big band Latin jazz, supporting its performance for new audiences, and educating young people in the understanding and performance of this important cultural treasure. Aimee has a culturally rich background - Dominican and French Gypsy - and conservatory training (SUNY Purchase) that help to form the rhythmic and expressive foundation by which a jury of legendary vocalists including Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater judged her to be a finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition in 2010. At the young age of twenty-six, Cyrille has since become one of the hottest young artists on the New York scene. Award-winning singers Tanya Holt and Marcus Simeone will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) once a month through January 2014. Final performance date is Sunday, January 26th at 7:00 pm. Their show "Quiet Storm," mixes R&B with pop hits and standards. Musical director is Tracy Stark with Marco Broehm on bass. Lina Koutrakos directors. The wide-ranging song list includes tunes by Matt Alber, Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Jimmy Webb, Cole Porter, Comden & Green, and Vincent Youmans. A 13-time MAC nominee (and four-time winner) Simeone is one of the most honored outsiders in the business. He is putting the finishing touches on his fourth CD on the Miranda Music label. Holt, by contrast, is a much-loved insider and rising star, who has been touted as one of the breakout talents in cabaret. Bob O'Hare made his cabaret debut in May of 2009 with "Home: A Musical Journey." But soon after, Mr. O'Hare took a very serious fall, and is still in recovery today. Born in Ottawa, singer-songwriter Amir Brandon is currently a jazz vocals music major at York University. With a rich, memorable voice and style, Brandon finds a tasteful blend between jazz and R&B/soul, exhibiting a vocal versatility and a distinctive performance style. Performing a repertoire of jazz standards and modern soul, Brandon exhibits both nostalgia and a current vibe all the same. Chris Macfarlane accompanies on guitar. No cover - tips appreciated.

Presented and hosted by Susan Winter and Deb Berman, the "OPEN MIC AT THE MET" is not your average Open Mic since it will be presented on the iconic stage, with amazing acoustics, high-end equipment, and experienced sound engineer to help create a concert-like experience in Metropolitan Room's friendly, warm environment. Each Open Mic offers different pianists to accompany your performance. There is a $15 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
