INDIANAPOLIS, IN: SPENCER DAY AT THE CABARET - THE MYSTERY OF YOU
Singer, songwriter and pianist, Spencer Day will perform at THE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN - 317-275-1169) on Friday & Saturday, May 8th (8:00 pm) and May 9th (7:00 pm). Day has drawn comparisons from Harry Connick Jr. and Jamie Cullum to Chet Baker and Paul Simon. Day creates seamless evening of classic jazz, pop, soul, and folk music. Spencer Day has released five solo albums to critical acclaim and has earned raves at jazz festivals and venues all over the world, including the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the Kennedy Center, Yoshi's, Monterey Jazz Festival, the Hollywood Bowl, Birdland, Feinstein's at the Nikko, Jazz Alley and more. There is a $25-$55 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.
CHICAGO: WOZ: A ROCK CABARET RETURNS
After sold out runs at Davenports and Victory Gardens, WOZ: A Rock Cabaret is returning to Chicago on Friday, May 8th to STAGE 773 (1225 West Belmont Street, Chicago, IL - 773-327-5252) at 10:30 pm. Everyone loved The Wizard of Oz when they were kids. Some were obsessed with dreams of rainbow icons, others the talking animals and fantastical friends. And so it is for seven adult children who refused to grow up and quit playing make believe. Join these Ozians in their musical sandbox as they travel the yellow brick road with the help of their favorite power ballads and rock anthems for the 80s, 90s and today. It's like your favorite mix radio station but better•because it has witches and munchkins. Performers include Sam Button Harrison, Heather Currie, Clara D'Onofrio, Edward Fraim, Scott Gryder, Kimberly Lawson, David Lipschutz, Alex Newkirk, Kevin Webb, and Sarah Wurz. The Band includes Nick Sula, Piano; Nick Davio, Guitar; and Nick Christiansen, Drums. WOZ: A Rock Cabaret is created by Kimberly Lawson and William Rogers directed by Scott Gryder, with music direction by Nick Sula. Call for cover/minimum information.
CHICAGO: JULIA HAWKINS IN FALLING FOR NOBODY ELSE FOR YOU
Love and laughter ensue as sassy, brassy Julia Hawkins returns to DAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830) on Friday, May 8th at 8:00 pm to make you "fall" once again with the help of Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, George Gershwin, Kurt Weill and Cole Porter - to name a few. Musical director is Michael Evans with Aaron Smith on Bass. There is an $18 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
