CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: YOSVANY TERRY AND THE NEW SCHOOL WEST AFRICAN HERITAGE ENSEMBLE
Yosvany Terry and the New School West African Heritage Ensemble will perform atDIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Tuesday, December 10th with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Co-presented by the New School for Contemporary Music and Jazz, the band includes Albert Baliwas, alto sax; Tal Blumstein, piano; Dahi Divine, tenor sax; Daniel Durst, bass; Owen Erickson, drums; John Foster, tenor sax; Francesco Geminiani, tenor sax; Natalie Moses, voice; Zan Tetickovic, drums; James Tillman, voice; Kevin Wang, guitar; with Yosvany Terry, saxophone. Saxophonist Yosvany Terry was born in Cuba, where he performed with legends such as Chucho Valdes and Silvio Rodriguez. Since arriving in New York in 1999, Terry has played with Roy Hargrove, Steve Coleman, and Eddie Palmieri. Serving as a bridge between cultures, Terry has created an ambitious and unique vision, now recognized as one of the most important cross-cultural integrations in modern jazz. At Dizzy's, Terry (who teaches at the school) will lead an ensemble of New School Jazz students to explore the rich musical heritage of West Africa and the West African Diaspora. The repertoire includes traditional music, as well as original compositions by contemporary composers. There is a $30 cover.
