NYC: SHEPLY METCALF SINGS LAURA NYRO AT THE MET
Shepley Metcalf's new show Can You Surry? The Songs of Laura Nyro, will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, November 1st at 7:00 pm and Saturday, November 10th at 9:30 pm. She'll be joined by the marvelous trio of pianist Janice Friedman, bassist Jim Whitney, and drummer Willard Dyson. Metcalf debuted the show in May at Boston's top jazz club. A long-time Nyro fan, she decided last year to depart from her American Songbook repertoire to explore Nyro's songbook. Songs that Metcalf selected for her show include "And When I Die," "I Never Meant to Hurt You," "Billy's Blues," "Upstairs by a Chinese Lamp," and cult classic "Emmie. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
