NYC: FLOANNE ANKAH SINGS PIAF AT METROPOLITAN ROOM
French actress and singer Floanne Ankah recounts the Piaf story in recognition of the 50th anniversary of her death in the New York premiere of "Edith Piaf, Alive and Living in New York" at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, March 17th at 9:30 pm. This authentic French chanteuse and farm girl opens the door to her culture, by taking a closer look at the legendary "Little Sparrow" with that husky, mournful voice so popular in the 1940's and 50's. The show is a medley of vintage tunes from Floanne's native France, with a modern twist. She will embody the legend, interpreting the melodies from her point of view as a child, imagining Piaf's characters coming to life. Floanne has been reviving the tradition of French Music Hall, performing her Chanson, as well as original compositions, with top jazz and cabaret artists. Piano: Audrey Saint-Gil, Accordion: Kate Dunphy, Guitar: Marcel Van Dam, Percussion: Mario Monaco. This marks Floanne's first time collaboration with theater director Alice Jankell, who is lending a cutting edge presentation to the cabaret form. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
