NYC: CHARLIE HADEN QUARTET WEST COMES EAST
The Charlie Haden Quartet West (Ravi Coltrane on sax, Alan Broadbent on piano, Rodney Green on drums) comes east to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, July 27th through 31st with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm as part of their 25th Anniversary Celebration. Throughout his career, Charlie Haden has transcended the boundaries of modern music. Widely considered to be among the greatest acoustic jazz bassists, Haden has contributed pivotal music to an array of genres: avant-garde, small group, big band, world music, folk and gospel. He has collaborated with jazz figures past and present including Hank Jones, Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Michael Brecker, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Barron, Brad Mehldau, Lee Konitz and Pat Metheny with whom Haden shared a 1997 Grammy Award for "Beyond the Missouri Sky." There is a $40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
