NYC: HAROLD SANDITEN FLYIN' HIGH IN NEW YORK CITY
Harold Sanditen, the suave and talented host of the Coqs' hugely popular Open Mic Night, is delighted to introduce his newest solo show, FLYIN' HIGH, as part of his world tour, at
THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm. An intrepid traveller, having visited every continent except Antarctica, Sanditen finds the humour everywhere he goes, something that shines through in his performances. From Albuquerque to the Zambezi, with songs ranging from Bacharach and the Beatles to Jobim and Weill, this 65-stop world tour is packed with songs, laughs, exciting, new, jazz-infused arrangements and perhaps even a tear or two. Come find out who said "Bloody hell, mate! Aren'tcha gonna take me back to the tent and take advantage of me?!" Since bursting onto the jazz and cabaret scene in 2008, Sanditen has devised six cabaret shows in as many years and has played to packed houses from London to LA. Before finding his own voice, Harold spent 20 years as a theatre producer where he worked with actors ranging from Academy Award winners to complete up-and-comers. During these three shows, a "Live at The Crazy Coqs" CD will be recorded. This will be the first CD recorded in the venue for commercial release. Harold will be joined on stage by Michael Roulston on piano, Tom Mansi on bass and Jonathan Kitching on drums. There is a $10-$45 cover.

Jazz vocalist Martha Lorin and NPR's Jon Weber will present 'Songs from The American Standards Songbook' at
DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Thursday, April 23rd at 7:30 pm. Singer/ Lyricist/ Songwriter Martha Loren and Jon Weber, rising star of the NPR's Piano Jazz, will entertain with a program that will include standards as well as a few lesser known songs written by American composers. This week they are joined by Sean Harkness on guitar. Martha Lorin was raised to be a singer and has pursued a career in jazz as a singer/lyricist/songwriter ever since. She followed her grandmother and mother, Sarah and Margaret Dalton, into this profession as a singer of jazz with such passion that her career took off. Martha's singing debut was at San Francisco's' Hungry I. Her career gained speed and she received a reputation for working with the best musicians in the business! Her debut LP "The Best is Yet to Come" produced by Henry Lewi (Joni Mitchell) featured jazz icons Pee Wee Ellis, Larry Klein, Mark Isham, besides others. With this first project, Martha performed throughout the US, Asia and Europe. In 1980 she met pianist/composer Frank Collette and began a collaboration as lyricist that resulted in several Billboard Award winning songs. Martha's singing appearances include: Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Iridium Jazz Club, South Bend Jazz Festival, Trio's Jazz Club, Pearl's, Feinstein's at the Regency, Judy's, 88's, Metropolitan Room, Green Mill, Catch 35, Bailiwick Theater, Milford Theater, The Gardenia to name a few. Martha's recordings include "A Celebration of Ella" with the late Paul Smith, "Come Walk With Me" featuring saxophone great Von Freeman, percussionist Leon Joyce, the late jazz icon Johnny Frigo on violin (who wrote the beautiful poem about Martha in the liner notes), bassist Eddie DeHass and bassist Larry Grey. "Blues Over Broadway" her collaboration with the great pianist Russ Kassoff, is a set arranged by Russ especially for Martha. Featuring bassist Larry Gray, percussionist Leon Joyce and guitarist Curtis Robinson. Highlights include the number one radio hit "Alone Together" "Send in the Clowns" (featuring Larry Gray' first involvement as a flutist on record) and her 91/2 minute version of the Rodgers/Hart classic "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". Martha even has an unreleased project (like many other recording artists) featuring songs of the patriotic genre, produced by Charles Osgood of CBS fame. Those recordings feature Ted Firth and Bucky and John Pizzarelli. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
