The late show will preclude the regularly scheduled "Jim Caruso's Cast Party," which will resume on the 16th of June. In October 2013, Lorna hosted a record breaking two-night benefit concert for the Actors Fund, "Lorna's Pink Party," which raised over $150,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and cancer research charities. Lorna was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in Dec 2012. After treatment she is cancer-free and ecstatic to be bringing "Accentuate the Positive" to Birdland! "Accentuate the Positive" will include many beloved standards, and in a special section, will pay tribute to Johnny Mercer, who has been called "America's poet," and was a close family friend. NYC: BLUE NOTE JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS: JEFF LORBER FUSION

Jeff Lorber Fusion will be presented at THE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, June 9th with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. By the late 1970s, trailblazing keyboardist/ composer/ producer Jeff Lorber had become a prominent figure in the new movement known as jazz fusion - a marriage of traditional jazz with elements of rock, R&B, funk and other electrified sounds. Lorber and his band, the Jeff Lorber Fusion, first honed their craft in the Portland, Oregon, club scene and rapidly expanded their reach to a national and international audience via a combination of complex harmonies, unconventional time signatures and compelling rhythms. In subsequent years, Lorber dropped the term "fusion" from his billing as the movement evolved into what is currently known as contemporary jazz. Still, he continued to explore the innovative, improvisational potential of grafting other musical forms to the jazz idiom. Lorber has been just as prolific and innovative in the new century as he was in the last, with recordings on Narada (Philly Style, Flip Side), Blue Note (He Had a Hat) and Peak (Heard That). There is a $20-$35 cover.

Francesca Amari has appeared at some of the top cabaret clubs in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles and her cabaret show, "You Make Me Laugh: A Love Song to Gilda Radner," has received critical acclaim and delighted audiences in Michigan, Chicago, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Gilmore Rizzo has spent the last two years touring in his show "That's Amore! SAN FRANCISCO: JUSTIN HAYWARD AT YOSHI'S

Lead singer of the Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, will perform at YOSHI'S (1330 Fillmore Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-655-5600) on Saturday, June 7th at 8:00 pm & Sunday, June 8th at 7:00 pm. From the age of 5 Justin Hayward enjoyed singing, and he inherited his paternal grandfather's collection of 78s when he was 6, which opened up the magical world of music to him as his grandpa had collected many hits of the 30s and 40s. He had a few piano lessons at 7, learned to play the ukulele at 9, and this progressed to a strong desire to own a guitar. With help from his parents and hire purchase, Justin had achieved this ambition by the age of 10. In early 1965 Justin answered an advertisement for a guitar player in "The Melody Maker" and soon found himself one-third of The Wilde Three with Marty Wilde and his wife Joyce, appearing on stage at the London Palladium in April of that year as well as touring all over the UK and performing on a long tour of the Middle East. 1977 saw the release of Justin's first hit solo album, Songwriter, from which were taken three singles, "One Lonely Room/Songwriter (Part 2)," "Country Girl/Doin' Time" and "Stage Door/Lay It On Me." This was closely followed by his involvement with Jeff Wayne in the War of the Worlds project, which brought Justin a world-wide hit single in 1978 with the beautiful and timeless "Forever Autumn." In that year he also found time to work with the Mandalaband (led by famous photographer and author David Rohl) and contributed to their album Eye of Wendor: Prophecies, and in 1979 he released a non-album single "Marie/Heart of Steel." In the same year Justin received the ASCAP award for "Nights in White Satin." As will be seen, as well as being a vocalist and lead guitarist for The Moody Blues and pursuing a successful solo career, Justin also enjoys the challenge of working with other artists and, when time permits, he likes to give his time to performing and recording for charitable organizations and to attending music industry functions. There is a $75-$99 cover.

WASHINGTON, DC: SAX LEGEND PHAROAH SANDERS AT BLUES ALLEY

Possessing one of the most distinctive tenor saxophone sounds in jazz, Pharoah Sanders moves into BLUES ALLEY (1073 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington, DC - 202-337-4141) on Thursday through Sunday, May 5th through 8th with shows at 8:00 & 10:00 pm. Harmonically rich and heavy with overtones, Sanders' sound can be as raw and abrasive as it is possible for a saxophonist to produce. Yet, Sanders is highly regarded to the point of reverence by a great many jazz fans. Although he made his name with expressionistic, nearly anarchic free jazz in John Coltrane's late ensembles of the mid-'60s Sanders' later music is guided by more graceful concerns. The hallmarks of Sanders' playing at that time were naked aggression and unrestrained passion. In the years after Coltrane's death, however, Sanders explored other, somewhat gentler and perhaps more cerebral avenues without, it should be added, sacrificing any of the intensity that defined his work as an apprentice to Coltrane. Call for cover/minimum information.
