The John Abercrombie Quartet will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) Tuesday through Saturday, October 12th through 16th, with shows at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. The John Abercrombie Quartet features Mark Feldman (violin), Joey Baron (drums), and Thomas Morgan (bass). Over a career spanning more than 40 years and nearly 50 albums, John Abercrombie has established himself as one the masters of jazz guitar. Favoring unusual sounds and nontraditional ensembles (recent quartet recordings have included violinist Mark Feldman), Abercrombie is a restless experimenter, working firmly in the jazz tradition while pushing the boundaries of meter and harmony. Abercrombie has performed live and recorded with a long list of jazz greats, including Gil Evans, Gato Barbieri, Barry Miles, Chico Hamilton, Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, Richie Beirach, to name a few. Abercrombie keeps up a heavy touring schedule and continues to record with ECM, a relationship that has spanned more than 30 years. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

FEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) presents the debut engagement of critically-acclaimed jazz vocalist Paula West from Tuesday through Saturday, October 12th through 16th and returning from Monday through Saturday, November 22nd through 27th. She will perform selections by Bob Dylan ("Shelter From The Storm"), Jimmy Webb ("Wichita Lineman"), Duke Ellington ("Everything But You") and Irving Berlin ("Suppertime"). She will be joined by the George Mesterhazy Quartet, which features Mr. Mesterhazy on piano, Barak Mori on bass, Jerome Jennings on drums and Ed Cherry on guitar. Paula West has captured the hearts of critics and audiences alike from coast to coast. Known and respected for her creative and distinct repertoire, West adds her own depth and drama to whichever song she chooses for the moment, creating whole new frameworks of meaning for American favorites. Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 8:30 pm and Friday & Saturday at 8:00 and 10:30 pm; The added show on Monday, November 22nd is at 8:30 pm, and there is no show on Thursday, November 25th. "The Sophie Tucker Songbook" debuted at New York's Rainbow & Stars as part of an ASCAP Sunday night showcase March '96. Since then, Sharon developed it into a one-woman musical, Red Hot Mama, which was workshopped at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Lucille Lortell's White Barn Theatre, and has finished a successful three month run Off-Broadway at the York Theatre. Her regional credits include Amanda McBroom's Heartbeats at the Pasadena Playhouse, and an award winning Dolly in Hello Dolly at the Peninsula Civic Light Opera (a role she repeated in her hometown, Modesto). Sharon was Sister Hubert in Nunsense in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where she received the Bay Area Critics Circle Award for "Best Performance in a Musical". She is the narrator of the documentary, "There That Night," the story of the Provincetown, Massachusetts fire, and was featured in the recent A & E documentary, "It's Burlesque", for her research on Mae West and Sophie Tucker. Award-winning jazz/cabaret artist Milla Ilieva will bring her new show "Ten! Ten! Ten!" toFEINSTEIN'S at the Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue, NYC - 212-339-4095) for a one-night-only evening on Sunday, October 10th at 8:30 pm. The evening will feature Paul Trueblood as musical director along with Jared Egan on double bass and James Brennan as director. Milla will bring her signature saucy and sophisticated performance style to songs as different as Vernon Duke's "I Like the Likes of You" and "Better" by Ed Kleban to Rodgers & Hart's "Funny Valentine" and a stirring rendition of "Losing My Mind" and "Thinking of You" by Stephen Sondheim and Harry Ruby & Bert Kalmar respectively. Milla will dedicate "Ten!Ten!Ten!" in memory of her former director, Margery Beddow, who passed away earlier this year. Miss Beddow was Bob Fosse's assistant and performed in several of his shows, served as an understudy to Gwen Verdon and wrote what has been hailed as the quintessential book on Mr. Fosse, "Bob Fosse's Broadway." A Juilliard alum, Milla Ilieva was the recipient of the 2006 Bistro Award and a two-time Nightlife Award finalist. She has performed in opera and in concerts throughout the USA, France and Japan, and has devoted herself professionally to cabaret since 1992 when she debuted at Danny's Skylight Room in "An Earful of Music." In 1999 she began performing her critically acclaimed show "Hidden Voices" (with musical director Jeffrey Chappell) at Don't Tell Mama where it was extended several times. There is a $30-$50 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

In conjunction with her appearance at the MERCER CABARET CONVENTION, Palm Beach favorite Avery Sommers moves intoTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) with her show "You're Gonna Hear From Me" on Sunday, October 10th at 8:00 pm. Avery starred on Broadway in the long running, critically acclaimed musicals Ain't Misbehavin' with Nell Carter and Showboat, and in two national tours: Chicago with Joel Grey and Chita Rivera and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Ann-Margret. A frequent co-star of Burt Reynolds (B.L. Stryker, The Man from Left Field), she also starred in Menopause, the Musical, and as Bloody Mary in South Pacific. In addition, she produced and co-starred in the film Hiding Victoria with Anita Gillette. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.
