NYC: LISA ELLEX - BACK TO BACHARACH

Cabaret veteran Lisa Ellex, noted jazz vocalist Nancy Reed and musical theatre performer Stephen Caputo, present 'Back to Bacharach at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, August 23rd at 4:00 pm. This 75-minute review features the best-loved hits of composer and pianist, Burt Bacharach. With Ricky Ritzel on piano and Mike Dopazo on sax, this nostalgic tribute covers hits from 1961 though 1970, proving that decades later, the genious of Bacharach remains relevant, fresh and exciting. Working as a writer and performer on the New York and Provincetown cabaret circuit led Lisa to a long-term gig as lead vocalist for The New Viper Jazztet. An actress and singer by night, Lisa's day job had her selecting programming for the launch of HBO's, COMEDY CHANNEL, where she also wrote and produced junkets. Moving to HBO DOWNTOWN PRODUCTIONS, Lisa wrote guest segments for comedian Alan Havey's talk show, NIGHT AFTER NIGHT on COMEDY CENTRAL. She worked on the staff of numerous NYC TV productions, including NIGHT MUSIC with David Sanborn and Jools Holland. A prolific playwright, her comedy, HOME SHOPPING is being produced for SHAWNEE PLAYHOUSE's 2016 Fall season. She is currently writing and directing, MUSIC ON THE MENU, a half-hour episodic concerning Jazz and food. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Nancy Reed was the daughter of an opera singer and a jazz/classical pianist. At a young age, Nancy was taught to sing by her mother. She has been a professional musician since 1978 when she formed a duo singing and playing guitar (and later bass) with husband, guitarist Spencer Reed. Their eighth duo recording, "Right Now" was released in the fall of 2014 and has been getting air-play on WRTI and other radio stations. A seasoned musical theatre performer, Stephen Caputo has enjoyed lead roles in Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Two Gentlemen Of Verona And Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He has fronted for several original and cover bands and is currently performing with the Somerset Hills Community Chorus, a classical choral group whose last production was Bach's SAINT JOHN PASSION. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE L-TRAIN STARRING LOUIS VANARIA AND LUCY CARACAPPA

The New York City cabaret duo, The L-Train, is coming to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:00 pm. The L-Train, featuring vocalists Louis Vanaria and Lucy Caracappa, will be performing toe tapping renditions of some of your favorite duets and heartwarming pop and theater solos from a range of artists such as Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Streisand, Buble, Cher, Sinatra and more! Louis Vanaria is a television/movie actor/vocalist whose credits include A Bronx Tale (role of Crazy Mario), recurring roles on TV's Person of Interest, Boardwalk Empire and a role in the upcoming film Friends and Romans starring Michael Rispoli and Annabella Sciora. Louis has performed cabaret at Foxwoods Casino with Jay Leno and Connie Francis and at the 4 Triple 5 Cafe in Niagara Falls. Lucy Caracappa is an accomplished vocalist who performs with club date acts such as The Tony T Orchestra and has graced numerous stages including New York's Empire City Casino and Florida's Empire Stage. She is also a comedic actress and improve performer with Murder Mystery Manhattan and has performed in many musical theater productions such as THE KING AND I as Tuptim and in KISMET as Lalume. The L-Train will perform with the live musicians of The Tony T. Orchestra with Tony Traina himself on the drums, a seasoned Broadway musician. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: SALON "SALON'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY!"

SALON - that unique, Multiple Award Winning, Weekly Open Mic Event, created and hosted by Mark Janas will return to ETCETERA ETCETERA (352 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-399-4141) on Sunday, August 23rd from 7:00 pm -10:30 pm. (Sign-Up Begins at 6:15 pm). The Theme on the 23rd is Salon's 10th Anniversary!. Co-Hosts will be The Etceterettes: Erin Cronican, Kathleen France, Janice Hall, Marnie Klar, Marissa Mulder, Candice Oden, Sierra Rein, Sarah Rice, Adam B. Shapiro & Zach Wobensmith (unable to attend: Dawn Derow, Shana Farr, Lorinda Lisitza, Jaye Maynard & Maureen Taylor). Salon will then continue every Sunday (except September 6th & September 13th). NYC: NATHAN CHANG: NAILING IT AT THE BEECHMAN

Bistro award winning and MAC award nominated singer/ songwriter Nathan Chang is back on the scene with a brand new show at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE(407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:00 pm. The show is packed full of brand new songs such as "Former Fat Kid" "Nailed It" and "Night Guy" to name only a few. An ample number of interesting anecdotes and obscure stories are included. A few of Sarah Dash's biggest fans are throwing her a party at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, August 23rd at 11:00 am which promises "big fun to be had by everyone." This 70s Disco themed birthday celebration combines a return to the location of the iconic Studio 54 with brunch, a bottomless cocktail aptly named after Sarah's international hit "Sinner Man", and once in a lifetime performances by some of her dearest friends and collaborators. Sarah Dash is perhaps best known as one third of the groundbreaking 70s group Labelle. Along with Nona Hendryx and Patti LaBelle, Dash cemented her place in music history with the smash "Lady Marmalade". On her own, she's recorded five impressive solo albums, collaborated with everyone from Nile Rodgers to Alice Cooper to Sylvester, and written songs with Keith Richards. This Grammy Hall of Famer has had her songs covered by the likes of Dionne Warwick and been sampled by Kanye West. Join in on the festivities to celebrate the legendary Sarah Dash. The legendary Meryl Streep, often named the greatest actress of our time, will perform at 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Sunday, August 23rd with performances at 7:00 & 9:30 pm. Streep has received three Academy Awards (with a record nineteen nominations), eight Golden Globes (with a record twenty-nine nominations), two Emmy Awards, two SAG Awards, the National Medal of the Arts, and the Presidential Medal of Honor. And to top it all off - she SINGS! From Into the Woods to Postcards from the Edge, some of her most iconic movie roles have featured songs. 54 Below is proud to present an evening celebrating those musical Meryl moments. Producer/ director Scott Coulter has assembled a cast of Broadway and cabaret stars who will perform songs from Streep's films including Into the Woods ("Stay With Me," "Children Will Listen"), Postcards from the Edge ("You Don't Know Me," "I'm Checking Out"), Ironweed ("He's Me Pal"), Death Becomes Her ("I See Me"), Mamma Mia! NYC: JOE'S PUB PRESENTS FINBAR FUREY

Finbar Furey performs at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:30 pm. Furey tours extensively, bringing his rare talents to a world-wide stage and treats audiences to evenings of pure Irish magic, great music, good humour, and the charm and sparkling wit associated with one of Ireland's great raconteurs. He comes from a unique pedigree - an all Ireland Uillean Pipe Champion and whistle player, singer/ songwriter as well as playing 5-string banjo, and guitar. Finbar has been round the block many times with brother Eddie, recording for Transatlantic records in the 60's and achieving fame as lead singer/ frontman of The Furey Brothers and Davey Arthur. Now he works solo, which balancing his folk roots with songs such as now and forever to his voice such as 'New York Girls' which was his handlebar moustache swinging contribution to Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York. There is a $25 cover.

NYC: THE DOM SALVADOR SEXTET: THE ART OF SAMBA JAZZ

Legendary Brazilian pianist, composer and arranger Dom Salvador performs with his sextet at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Sunday, August 23rd at 9:30 pm. Dom won the 2012 Brazilian Music Award with his last album "The Art of Samba Jazz", released by Salmarsi Records. Featuring 11 of his original compositions, many of which they will perform at Joe's Pub, their album is a homage to the Pre and Bossa-Nova periods of Rio de Janeiro.bThe genre Samba Jazz is a combination of American Jazz and Samba. It goes back to the 1920's when Brazilian composers such as Pixinguinha, influenced by the New Orleans rhythms Dixieland and Fox Trot, was the first Brazilian composer to improvise. The 1940's brought more sophisticated melodies and the music was being orchestrated for bigger bands to perform in dance halls for Rio's growing middle class. It was the birth of Gafieira, a festive ballroom style dance music very popular in the 50's. 

NYC: ON KENTUCKY AVENUE RETURNS TO STAGE 72 FOR ONE PERFORMANCE

To commemorate its 32nd year as a producing company, Songbirds Unlimited Productions, one of the co-producers of the musical revue, "On Kentucky Avenue," will celebrate the occasion by presenting the musical at its "first theatrical home" at STAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:00 pm. TONY nominee Brenda Braxton, who appeared in the show for a limited number of performances earlier this year, will return for this special performance. The cast will also include Ty Stephens, the show's choreographer and co-star who is currently completing a tour of Japan; Lee Summers, who plays comedian "Slappy Black (modeled after the comic actor Slappy White who performed at the original Club Harlem in Atlantic City during its heyday); and Jeree Wade, who appears in a guest role as Damita Jo who was another singer who made multiple appearances at the elegant club. Admission is $20 for all tickets, plus a two drink minimum. (Showgoers who have pre-theater or after-theater dinners at SEVENS Turkish Restaurant on the street level of Stage 73, 156 West 72nd Street, will receive a 10% discount on their checks by showing a copy of the fler, or ticket stubs or show program).

NYC: BIRDLAND JAZZ PARTY HOSTED BY CAROLE BUFFORD
CABARET EVENT IN A JAZZ CLUB!

Birdland's very own jazz quartet hits the stage every Sunday to wrap up the weekend with jazz classics featuring jazz vocalist Carole J. Bufford at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sundays, August 23rd & 30th at 6:00 pm. Carole J. Bufford has become a sought after young performer in the New York cabaret & jazz scene. Her recent shows, "Speak Easy." (featuring the Grammy Award-winning Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks) and "Body & Soul" earned her rave reviews across the board She is the recipient several awards for Outstanding Vocalist. She has traveled all over the US (The Colony's Royal Room - Palm Beach; Venetian Room - Dallas; Cabaret 313 - Detroit; Broadway By The Bay - San Mateo; Upright Cabaret - L.A.) and recently made her London Debut to great critical acclaim. Recently, Carole was featured in Michael Feinstein's Great American Songbook series at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
