NYC: NICHOLAS RODRIGUEZ IN "THE FIRST TIME..."

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents the NYC cabaret debut of Nicholas Rodriguez in "The First Time," a CD release celebration. The one-night-only event will take place on Sunday, June 28th at 6:00 pm at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080). "The First Time..." is a concert and CD that embraces songs by theatre composers Stephen Sondheim, Frank Loesser and Rodgers & Hammerstein alongside pop hits from Joni Mitchell and Sara Bareilles. The show fuses the worlds of Broadway and pop with a performance of Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan, the show in which Rodriguez made his Broadway debut. The concert will feature direction by T. Oliver Reid, music direction and arrangements by pianist David Budway, along with Neal Caine on bass, Donald Edwards on drums, and Ron Afif on guitar. "The First Time... " is being produced by PS Classics, the label dedicated to the preservation of Broadway and American popular song and is available for pre-order at www.psclassics.com. A portion of the proceeds from "The First Time..." will benefit the Broadway Dreams Foundation, for which Rodriguez is the Artistic Director. The Broadway Dreams Foundation is a premier performing arts education program dedicated to ongoing engagement, inspiration and access regardless of a student's ability to pay. Nicholas Rodriguez has had an extensive career on Broadway (Tarzan), film (Sex and the City 2) and the concert stage. Nicholas is perhaps best known for the role of Nick Chavez on ABC's "One Life to Live" for which he received the GLAAD Media Award. Recently he starred opposite Kathleen Turner in 'Mother Courage and Her Children' at Arena Stage in Washington, DC where he also played Freddy in 'My Fair Lady' and was seen as Curly in 'Oklahoma!' for which he received a 2011 Helen Hayes Award for "Best Actor in a Musical". In addition to making his Broadway debut in Disney's production of Tarzan, Nicholas originated the role of Aaron, starring opposite Val Kilmer's Moses in the U.S Premiere of The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. Off-Broadway he starred in The Toxic Avenger: The Musical, Almost Heaven: Songs of John Denver, Colette Collage, and Bajour. He's also traveled the world on tours of Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), Evita (Che), and Hair (Claude). His concert appearances include performances at Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, 54 Below, Feinsteins, Birdland, and the Metropolitan Room in NYC. There is a $30 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. Dinner is served between 5:00 pm-1:00 am.

NYC: TONY YAZBECK IN "THE FLOOR ABOVE ME"

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presents Tony Award-nominee Tony Yazbeck, the star of this season's On The Town revival, who will make his solo debut at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sunday, June 28th at 9:00 pm. Yazbeck will heat up the Birdland stage in The Floor Above Me, a thrilling evening of tenor melodies and tenacious tap dancing, and will be joined by On The Town co-star Clyde Alves and tap dance sensation Melinda Sullivan ("So You Think You Can Dance," "Glee"). Musical direction and arrangements will be by Jerome Korman, and the evening is written and directed by Howard Emanuel & Tony Yazbeck. (Jerome Korman/piano, Thomas Hubbard/bass, Tony Lewis/drums, Mark McGowan/trumpet). Songs included in The Floor Above Me will be "Pure Imagination," "Cheek To Cheek," "Both Sides Now," and "Lucky To Be Me." Tony's Broadway credits also include Billy Flynn in Chicago, Phil Davis in White Christmas, Tulsa in Gypsy (w/Patti LuPone), and Al in the revival of A Chorus Line. There is a $25-$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum. Dinner is served between 5:00 pm-1:00 am.

NYC: "LOVE ME: DOWNTOWN AND DOWNUNDER" A PRIDE CELEBRATION

The Broadway at Birdland concert series, in association with Jacob Langfelder, presents "Love Me:Downtown and Downunder - A PrideCelebration" at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Sunday, June 28th at 11:00 pm. Performers scheduled to appear include Molly Pope, Tori Scott, Lance Horne, Brendan Maclean & Andrew Nielson will fly into Birdland from the distant lands of Australia, Austria and Astoria for a very special Pride Celebration. Molly Pope is a critically acclaimed cabarettist and actress whose shows have played Joe's Pub, Feinstein's at Loews Regency, Ars Nova, The Laurie Beechman Theater, the Duplex, and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in Australia. She has also performed at The Cafe Carlyle ("Tales From The JazzAge"), the Afterglow Festival in Provincetown and "Our Hit Parade" at Joe's Pub. On stage she has appeared in FOUND (Atlantic Theater Co), Horseplay, or The Fickle Mistress (La MaMa ETC/Theatre Askew), and The Material World (Dixon Place). Belter and bad decision expert Tori Scott, is a Garland for the Grindr era. As a singer, she has been performing her brassy songs and slurred autobiographical stories on the stages of 54 Below, the Laurie Beechman, the Metropolitan Room, and every gay bar on the Eastern Seaboard. As an actress,she's counted to 20 as a singing garbage woman on "Sesame Street" and dubbed the vocals of a singing hooker on HBO's "Cathouse: The Musical." Lance Horne is an Emmy Award winning composer, lyricist, singer, pianist, producer and music director of his own work, as well as collaborating with exciting artists around the world. Writing in genres from musical theater to rock, classical stage to film scores and work for television, Mr. Horne maintains an active performance schedule on both US coasts, the UK, and Australia.Brendan Maclean is the sparkling, glittering, fabulous songwriter Australia desperately needs. He is a master of the literal biting lyric that sits on the tip of your tongue, that crops up in conversation and is pasted across Facebook walls and Twitter profiles for weeks. His original songs, with their shamelessly flamboyant melodic lines, have worked their way from YouTube, to the Opera House and to the studio of acclaimed producer Paul Mac all before finding his new home at Universal Music Publishing. Brendan's sailing vocals have been compared to Panic At The Disco and Patrick Wolf with a style that stretches from pop fireworks to dramatic rock ballads; his lyrical delivery receiving praise for its personal and instantly recognizable charm. Andrew Nielson is an American film, television,and theatre actor. His selected theatre credits include Les Miserables (dir. Fred Hanson of the 2007Broadway revival), The Ugly Duckling (DramaDesk Nominated company Marvell Repertory Theatre), and Son of a Gun (directed by Tony Award nomineeGabriel Barre), among many others. His recent film credits include the upcoming sci-fi thriller Caihong City and the upcoming LGBT drama Lover's Game. There is a $25 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.
