NYC: KAREN OBERLIN: HIS AIM IS TRUE; THE SINGULAR SONGS OF ELVIS COSTELLO

Karen Oberlin,a fan of Elvis Costello since her early teens, when his young angst, disillusionment and vulnerable heart seemed perfectly in synch with her own, brings her show "His Aim Is True: The Singular Songs Of Elvis Costello' to STAGE 72 (158 West 72nd Street, NYC - 212-362-2590) on Thursdays, June 4th, 18th & 25th at 7:00 pm. One of the most versatile and prolific contemporary artists, over the years Elvis has delved into innumerable genres and styles with passion and intelligence, including classical, jazz and pop. His many collaborative partners have included Burt Bacharach, the Brodsky String Quartet, Paul McCartney, Bill Frisell and the Jazz Passengers. For her new show, Karen brings forth a collection of material from her more than 30 years of following his eclectic, fascinating career to express some of the most intriguing elements of this unique singer/songwriter's work and life. Tedd Firth serves as musical director, and they will be joined by Sean Harkness on guitar and Steve Doyle on bass. Karen believes that if one takes a close and discerning look, the so-called Great American Songbook is still being written. She is a recipient of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Donald F. Smith Award, along with Bistro, Nightlife and multiple MAC awards, and an honorary doctorate in music. Her recordings are often featured on Jonathan Schwartz's radio show and she has headlined at all the major New York nightclub venues, including the Algonquin's Oak Room, Feinstein's at the Regency, the Cafe Carlyle, Birdland, Kitano and 54 Below. She has performed at concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Town Hall and Caramoor, and her performances take her all over the world, including her annual engagements in London. There is a $2 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: ERIC COMSTOCK & BARBARA FASANO RETURN TO METROPOLITAN ROOM

The popular husband-and-wife pop-jazz duo Eric Comstock and Barbara Fasano return to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) for a six-night major engagement on Tuesday & Thursday, June 2nd & 4th; Wednesday, June 3rd at 9:30 pm and Monday & Tuesday, June 8th & 9th at 7:00 pm. Their new show, "Shoulder Season," is a swinging summer cocktail of lazy days, blue skies, and exotic lands. Reflecting the duo's well-traveled view of the pop and jazz songbooks "Shoulder Season" (the phrase is borrowed from the travel industry to describe the off-peak times between high seasons) covers ample ground, everything from Sinatra to Strayhorn to Springsteen. A crackling combination of warmth, wit, swing and sensuality, this celebrated husband-and-wife team toasted their 10th wedding anniversary last August. Honored as vocalists, recording artists, and writers of their numerous performance pieces, they received an impressive three MAC Awards in one year, including Vocal Duo of the Year, Outstanding Female Vocalist and Record of the Year. Fasano's fourth CD, "Busy Being Free" drops this fall. Comstock, a 2015 Bistro Award winner, is the co-creator and star of the long-running Off-Broadway hit revue "Our Sinatra," and recently released his fourth CD, "bitter/sweet." Their many New York engagements include Carnegie Hall, The Appel Room and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, Feinstein's, The Carlyle, Birdland, Jazz at Kitano, and the 92nd Street Y's "Lyrics and Lyricists" series. Across the country, they headline at Caramoor; Cooperstown Music Festival; Arizona Jazz Festival; Guild Hall in East Hampton; Sheldon Concert Hall and Jazz at The Bistro in St. Louis; Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston; Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, and The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach. NYC: KAY MATSUKAWA RETURNS TO THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Kay Matsukawa will perform on Thursday, June 4th at 9:30 pm at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Kay, who began her professional music career at the age 18, honed her vocal skills by sharing live performances and recording sessions with some of Japan's most accomplished artists, including Yuming (Yumi Matsutoya), the best-selling female singer/songwriter in Japan. In 1999, Kay teamed with a guitarist Neo to form FAKiE, a guitar/vocal duo, earning critical praise for their breathtaking performance and high quality sound. In August 2006 they performed at "Imperial Jazz Complex" at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. They rode the momentum of that performance into a nationwide tour, playing at major concert halls. In 2007, Kay was awarded a prestigious Artists' Grant from the Japanese Government, enabling her to moved to New York City to further develop her talent. Kay quickly began making a name for herself following a successful New York debut at the Kitano New York in November 2009. In October 2010, Kay, reunited with Neo, appeared at Zinc Bar as a duo (now called K & Neo) for a sold-out show. They followed that show with another sold-out performance, again at Zinc Bar, in February 2011. She recently filmed "The Center of the Universe". There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: THE VAUDEVILLIANS - THE ORIGINAL SHOW

The Vaudevillians returns to NYC on Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 pm at THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE(407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) This is the original hit show that introduced Kitty Witless and Dr. Dan von Dandy atarting in 2013. The follow-up show, The Vaudevillians: Bringing Up Baby is also playing in rotation at The Beechman! Throughout the 1920's Kitty Witless and Dr. Dan Von Dandy toured speakeasies and burlesque theaters through the United States as THE VAUDEVILLIANS, wowing audiences with their edgy, original music. Unfortunately, one day, tragedy struck. While touring through Antarctica, they were victims of a devastating avalanche and were buried under two tons of sleet and snow - instantly freezing them alive. But thanks to Global Warming, they recently thawed out only to discover that pop artists of various decades had stolen their music and passed it off as their own. Much to their shock and chagrin. Now, at long last, they are taking to the stage to reclaim their songs, performing their music as originally composed. The Vaudevillians stars RuPaul's Drag Race sensation Jinkx Monsoon as "Kitty Witless" and acclaimed composer and musician Major Scales as Dr.Dan Von Dandy. In her new show, CONE OF SILENCE!, Miss Richfield 1981 opens the discussion up to all forbidden topics: family problems, medical issues, politics, religion.You are only as sick as your secrets, so when she lowers the Cone of Silence, anything goes. Anything! With a unique combination of Midwestern sensibilities and off-the-page humor, MISS RICHFIELD 1981 has quickly become one of America's most beloved drag stars. Her rich history begins with a life-long goal of being crowned beauty queen of her first-ring suburb of Minneapolis (hometown of her creator, Russ King). Since winning the title of Miss Richfield in 1981, she has continued to promote the values and principles of Richfield, Minnesota. As well as performing sell-out performances throughout the country, Miss R has earned a reputation as one of the most successful acts in Provincetown (along with Varla Jean Merman and Dina Martina). Miss Richfield's national appeal includes riotous appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", "Today" on NBC, "Cake Boss" on TLC, and, most recently, as a television spokesperson for Orbitz and the City of Philadelphia. NYC: LINDA LAVIN LIVE! AT 54 BELOW

Tony and Golden Globe winner Linda Lavin takes the stage at 54 BELOW(254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Thursday through Saturday, June 4th through 6th at 7:00 pm, performing Broadway favorites, standards, jazz, and even some songs she learned from the great girl singers. New York audiences remember her from It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Broadway Bound, Collected Stories, The Diary of Anne Frank, Gypsy, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife, and many others, and the world over knows her as Alice Hyatt in the long-running hit TV series, "Alice." A veteran of the cabaret stage, Linda began her career playing such NYC nightspots as The Showplace in Greenwich Village and midtown's Downstairs at the Upstairs. Recently, Linda released her very first CD, Possibilities. The Tony Award is Broadway's mark of excellence - and the Best Musical Tony is a highly sought prize. Often the winner is obvious to those in the know, but SOMETIMES there is a fight to the finish. With that in mind TONY BATTLES honors those historic match-ups between iconic musicals who duked it out to receive the crown. For the first outing they will look at 1998's contest: The Lion King vs. Ragtime - with Side Show and The Scarlet Pimpernel ready to swoop in and steal the whole thing. Susan Werner, who composes skillful songs that effortlessly slide between folk, jazz, and pop, all delivered with sassy wit and classic Midwestern charm, will perform at JOE'S PUB at THE PUBLIC THEATRE (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - 212-967-7555) on Thursday, June 4th at 7:00 pm. Throughout her expansive career, boundless versatility has emerged as a hallmark of Werner's talent, and has proven to be a quintessential ingredient of her engrossing musical persona. Currently, Susan Werner's musical adaptation of Bull Durham is premiering in Atlanta at the Alliance Theater. There is a $25 cover.
