NYC: JOHN KOPROWSKI: FIVE YEARS THAT ROCKED THE WORLD, 1964-1969

John Koprowski brings his show 'Five Years that Rocked the World' to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:00 pm & Saturday, March 7th at 5:00 pm. John Koprowski takes us on a musical journey through the days that created the '60s sound: the campus free speech movement, the Vietnam war and anti-war protests, civil rights marches, Ken Kesey and Timothy Leary, Haight-Ashbury and the Summer of Love, Fillmore East and West, the Beatles and the British invasion, Dylan going electric, Altamont, Monterey, and Woodstock. Setting the scene for this turbulent era are songs by the following artists: The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, The Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and others. John Koprowski, a rock and roll historian as well as a performer, offers these powerful songs in the proper setting - with a five piece band and three backup singers under the direction of Tracy Stark. The entire production is directed by Mr. Eric Michael Gillett. The music that came out of the 1960s is still with us today, and as popular as ever. However, these days you're more likely to hear a song by the Byrds or the Mamas and the Papas as lush string arrangements in an elevator or at the bank. Here's your chance to hear this iconic music as it was meant to be heard: live, loud, and rocking. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Steve D'Agostino, who has been performing the songs from the "Great American Songbook" for over 30 years, will perform at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Saturday, March 7th at 9:30 pm. Steve's journey to a commitment of "expression" through the music and lyrics made popular in the United States and around the world by vocalist such as Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash took root a long time ago. In the early 80's, Steve started playing guitar and singing "live" with his first band "Finesse". The band experienced quite a following and established themselves as a successful GB (general business) group in Connecticut performing an average of 100 engagements a year. As Steve continued to evolve, his voice began to be an essential skill that his band began to rely on. As a result of his vocal development, in the the late 80's, Steve began to dedicate himself more on the development of his singing skills. Today, Steve's 30 plus years of experience are evident with every performance as he tenderly delivers melodies on ballads or relaxes the placement of a lyric on any "medium" to "up-tempo" swing tune. This vocal artistry has taken Steve from "coast to coast" and through the dedication of he and his live band, Steve has become "the standard" of this genre of music on the local scene. In addition to regular engagements at some of the finest restaurants and night clubs in Connecticut, Steve's performing credits include appearances in Las Vegas at The Paris Casino Hotel, Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, The Pequot Room at Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard, CT and the MGM Grand Theatre. Steve continues to honor and maintain the tradition of the Great American Songbook today by humbly interpreting the timeless music and lyrics of Cole Porter, Ira Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. Every time he stands in front of an audience, his interpretations of these great american songs reminds his audience about the skill and importance of the "art and craft" of songwriting and public performance.
