MANHATTAN: BILLY STRITCH "I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER: THE JAZZ OF CY COLEMAN"

Billy Stritch brings his show "I've Got Your Number: The Jazz of Cy Coleman" to BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) on Mondays, March 3rd & 10th at 7:00 pm as part of the Broadway at Birdland series. In this brand new show, Billy Stritch explores the pop/jazz side of the legendary songwriter Cy Coleman. Although Coleman is mainly known as the composer of a dozen legendary Broadway shows, he was quite prolific writing "stand alone" songs in the 50's and 60's, including such well-known titles as "The Best Is Yet To Come," "Witchcraft" and "It Amazes Me,"as well as more obscure gems co-written with Carolyn Leigh and Peggy Lee. This show was recently presented in London to rave reviews, receiving 4 Stars in the LondonTimes. In this outing, Stritch will be accompanied by Tom Hubbard on bass and Ray Marchica on drums. There is a $30-$40 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

MANHATTAN: JIM CARUSO'S "CAST PARTY" MONDAYS AT BIRDLANDFEATURED OPEN MIC EVENT

Every Monday night at 9:30 pm, Broadway impresario Jim Caruso hosts "Cast Party", a combination open-mic, networking event and party atBIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) during which the biggest stars on Broadway relax on their night off by performing their favorite songs in an informal setting. Cast Party is a mix of music, impromptu performance and cocktail party revelry, where showbiz superstars, stunning jazz talents and cabaret glitterati hit the stage alongside up-and-comers to serve up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. It's the ultimate spot to mix and mingle with talented show folk and their fans. There is a $20 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum.

MANHATTAN: KENNY WERNER & JANIS MANN - CD RELEASE

World-class pianist and composer Kenny Werner and stylist and fearless improviser Janis Mann will celebrate the release of their new CD atTHE BLUE NOTE (131 West 3rd Street, NYC - 212-475-8592) on Monday, March 3rd with shows at 8:00 & 10:30 pm. Werner's prolific output of compositions, recordings, and publications continue to impact audiences around the world. He has worked closely with legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans, Betty Buckley, Joe Lovano, Ari Hoenig, Johannes Weidenmuellerg, Lionel Loueke and Miguel Zenon and countless others. A Guggenheim Fellowship Award winner, Werner is also a world-class educator. His groundbreaking book on improvisation, Effortless Mastery (2006), is required reading for all aspiring jazz musicians. Janis Mann is that rare artist who can sweep you away with her captivating sound. She is a true jazz singer in the manner of Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, and Shirley Horn, yet with a sound all her own. An exciting and engaging performer, Janis' rich timbre, flexibility, and range often invite comparisons to Sarah Vaughan. Some of the jazz luminaries she has sung or recorded with include: Roy Haynes, Diane Schuur, Jack Sheldon, Jon Mayer, Ross Tompkins, John Heard, Red Holloway, and Dave Frishberg, earning their praises. There is a $10-$15 cover.

MANHATTAN: COMBO NUVO AT DIZZY'S

Combo Nuvo with special guest and Quincy Jones Artist pianist/composer Emily Bear will perform at DIZZY'S CLUB AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER (33 West 60th Street, NYC - 212-258-9595) on Monday, March 3rd with shows at 7:30 & 9:30 pm. Led by multi-instrumentalist David Schroeder, Combo Nuvo comprises members of the world-class NYU Jazz faculty, including saxophonist Lenny Picket, who is also the musical director for the Saturday Night Live band, and renowned composer/arranger Rich Shemaria. Others in the combo include Billy Drewes, woodwinds; Brad Shepik, guitar; Rich Shemaria, piano; Mike Richmond, cello; and John Hadfield, drums. Combo Nuvo presents a refreshing blend of jazz, blues, classical, and world music, and has performed in a diverse range of settings, from New York City venues like Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola and Blue Note, to tours and festivals in China, Costa Rica, Italy, Peru, and the United Arab Emirates. They will be joined by talented student performers from the NYU Steinhardt Jazz Studies program. There is a $30 cover.
