CABARET TONIGHT IN NYC: PAT MARTINO & ELDAR DJANGIROV AT THE IRIDIUM

Pat Martino and Eldar Djangirov will perform at THE IRIDIUM JAZZ CLUB (1650 Broadway, NYC - 212-582-2121 - ) on Sunday, January 26th with shows at 8:30 & 10:30 pm. Born Pat Azzara in Philadelphia, Pat Martino was first exposed to jazz through his father, Carmen "Mickey" Azzara, who sang in local clubs and briefly studied guitar with Eddie Lang. He took Pat to all the city's hot-spots to hear and meet Wes Montgomery and other musical giants. He began playing guitar when he was twelve years old. and left school in tenth grade to devote himself to music. During Visits to his music teacher Dennis Sandole, Pat often ran into another gifted student, John Coltrane, who would treat the youngster to hot chocolate as they talked about music. Today, Martino lives in Philadelphia again and continues to grow as a musician. His experiments with guitar synthesizers are taking him in the direction of orchestral arrangements and they promise groundbreaking possibilities. Musicians flock to his door for lessons, and he offers not only the benefits of his musical knowledge, but als o the philosophical insights of a man who has faced and overcome enormous obstacles. New York based pianist Eldar Djangirov was signed to Sony Masterworks at the age of 17, the young pianist from Kansas City was already well known for his prodigious pyrotechnics and precocious knowledge of the bebop tradition. Born on January 28, 1987, Eldar came to the U.S. from the former Soviet Union when he was ten. Among his first performances were in his hometown of Kansas City, as well as The Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. Eldar has appeared at numerous major jazz festivals including Tokyo Jazz Festival, Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival, Vienna Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and San Francisco Jazz Festival and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. There is a $30 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
