CABARET PICKS FOR THIS WEEKEND IN NYC: PWR CHAMBER ENSEMBLE PRESENTS "SOMEONE" AT THE MET

CABARET PICKS FOR THIS WEEKEND IN NYC: PWR CHAMBER ENSEMBLE PRESENTS "SOMEONE" AT THE MET
MEMBER DISCOUNT - $5 OFF THE COVER

PWR - the chamber ensemble led by vocalist Parker Scott with pianist Wells Hanley and cellist Rubin Kodheli will bring virtuosic musicianship and unbridled passion to SOMEONE, a new show, at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, October 11th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, October 13th at 4:30 pm. Joining them for this series of performances is JONATHAN KANTOR on woodwinds. Blurring the lines of theater, pop and classical music, SOMEONE includes songs by Ricky Ian Gordon, John Denver, Leonard Bernstein, Ennio Morricone, Erich Korngold, Craig Carnelia, Matt Alper and Peter Allen. Wells Hanley's arrangements draw inspiration from the classical idiom, with references to Brahms and Rachmaninov, creating a unique and luxurious harmonic landscape for lyrics that allow deep and hidden emotions to fly free. The evening, which is directed by award winning director, Gerry Geddes, takes it title from Jason Robert Brown's masterpiece "Someone to Fall Back On", and explores the universal need to be "someone". The centerpiece is The Matthew Shepard Suite, a collection of songs by various composers that honors the memory of the young gay man who was brutally beaten and hung on a fence to die in Laramie in 1998. This terrible crime was the focus of national attention and helped to establish hate-crime laws throughout the country. Proceeds from the October performances will benefit The Matthew Shepard Foundation. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $20 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.
