NYC: DON'T RUN, RUSH! AT THE BRICK THEATRE

The bold and hot-blooded Mona Ray conjures up both therapeutic as well as hysterical and infectious laughter in Don't run, Rush! at THE BRICK THEATRE (579 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY - 718- 907-6189) on Saturday, September 15th at 7:00 pm; Sunday, September 16th at 5:30 pm; and Thursday, September 20th at 8:30 pm. The absurdly fascinating humor straight from Finland, known for its wintery darkness and summery light, where people neither talk, kiss nor laugh out loud. "Don't run - Rush" features four different pictures of reality in its most absurd forms. A one-woman show where the viewer is never safe. The feeling of danger brings that extra spice to this comedy act where the recipient gives and all is taken. Starring master of ceremonies Bastard Keith and burlesque headliner Madame Rosebud, and featuring a rotating constellation of guest stars, on the second and fourth Friday of the month. Specializing in classic burlesque, each night features a new line-up of four highly distinguished striptease artists performing two numbers each throughout the evening. Emmy-nominated musical director, conductor, arranger and jazz pianist Donn Trenner, in his first New York major engagement in 25 years, collaborates with the MAC and Bistro Award-winning jazz vocalist Shaynee Rainbolt on four Fridays in September atTHE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440). Performances are on Fridays, September 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th, all shows at 9:30 pm. A bebop pianist of distinction Trenner played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Oscar Pettiford, Charles Mingus, and Ben Webster, appearing on over 100 jazz albums from 1950 onward. A leading musical director, Trenner appeared nightly on the famed Steve Allen Show, leading the Donn Trenner Orchestra. He was also Ann-Margret's musical director for 18 years, and he worked extensively touring with Shirley MacLaine, and was musical director for Nancy Wilson. A Bistro Award winner, two-time MAC Award winner, and four-time MAC Award nominee, Shaynee's first two CD's were released on 33Jazz Records out of the UK (www.33jazz.com). Her third CD, "Charmed Life: Shaynee Rainbolt SINGS Russell Garcia," won the MAC Award for best Jazz Recording. The buzz surrounding The Yellowjackets continues to resonate after over 20 years of recording. And as long as the band continues to expand its musical horizons, founding member and group keyboardist Russell Ferrante expects the band to pollinate a plethora of genres for years to come. In 1977, Robben Ford assembled a group of veteran session musicians to record his album The Inside Story. The trio of musicians, which included keyboardist Russell Ferrante, bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Ricky Lawson, soon discovered a certain "chemistry" and musical affinity that led to their formation of Yellowjackets. Richard Holbrook Sings Burton Lane: A Centennial Celebration will be presented at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, August 20th at 9:30 pm; Monday, August 27th at 7:00 pm; Wednesday, September 12th at 9:30 pm; and Thursday, September 13th at 9:30 pm. This musical tribute covers Burton Lane's career as a composer beginning with his success at M-G-M as a motion picture songwriter of over thirty films leading up to his great triumph on Broadway with Finian's Rainbow and On A Clear Day You Can See Forever. The musical selections included in this show are songs written by Burton Lane with celebrated lyricists as Ira Gershwin, Frank Loesser, Harold Adamson, Ralph Freed, and of course, Alan Jay Lerner and E.Y. "Yip" Harburg. He will be accompanied by the Tom Nelson Trio. Richard Barclay will direct the show. There is a $20 cover plus a 2-drink minimum. $15 cover for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

"West Coast Cool" will be presented atTHE CABARET AT THE COLUMBIA CLUB (121 Monument Circle, Indianapolis, IN - 317-275-1169) on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:30 pm. The show is the result of an exciting collaboration between two of Southern California's hottest, hippest jazz singers: Manhattan Transfer's Cheryl Bentyne and Mark Winkler. The show explores "west coast style," the more lyrical, mellower style of jazz as opposed to the harder-edged "bop" favored in the East. Illuminating the evolution of "West Coast cool" from it's beginnings in the '50s through today, Cheryl and Mark witll spotlight the work of such jazz greats as Dave Bruebeck, Chet Baker, Steve Allen, Bobby Troup, Chris Connor, Julie London, June Christy and more! Cheryl Bentyne has thrilled thousands of jazz fans as the flame-haired soprano in the vocal group known as The Manhattan Transfer. Her work with that group has earned her nine Grammy Award. Mark Winkler, an LA-based singer/songwriter, has successfully straddled two worlds...the world of jazz and the world of theater. As a performer, he has achieved a position among the highest-ranking male jazz singers of the day, being compared to Kurt Elling and Mark Murphy. There is a $35-$45-$55 cover plus a $12 food/drink minimum.

On Wednesday, September 12th the featured guest will be Pamela Enders. Pianist for the open mic is Bill Duffy.
