NYC: "THE GIRL WITH THE LONG LAST NAME" AT THE METROPOLITAN

Danielle Grabianowski's new show, "The Girl With the Long Last Name" will open at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Thursday, October 28th at 7:00 pm, with additional performances on Wednesday, November 3rd & Thursday, November 18th, also at 7:00 pm. In her follow up show, Ms. Grabianowski presents music from composers such as Romberg and Hammerstein II ("When I Grow Too Old to Dream"), Radiohead ("Creep") and Neil Diamond and Alan & Marilyn Bergman ("You Don't Bring Me Flowers") along with little known gems from the Great American Songbook and beyond. The show is directed by Lennie Watts and features Nate Buccieri on Piano and Sean Harkness on Guitar. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

Annie was raised in Mexico City and after seeing her first professional show at the age of six, she knew she wanted to perform. She sat in on her siblings' guitar lessons and learned to sing all the boleros and mariachis. Encouraged by her parents to "do what makes you happy" she furthered her passion for acting and singing by training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (R.A.D.A.), London, and graduated from Mills College, CA, with a B.A. in Dramatic Arts. The Pat Martino Organ Quartet will perform at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080 - ) Tuesday through Saturday, October 26th through 30th with sets at 8:30 & 11:00 pm. Virtuoso guitarist Martino got his start on the "chitlin' circuit" with organ groups led by "Groove" Holmes, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Trudy Pitts, Charles Earland and others in the 1960s. Having fully recovered from a life-threatening illness in the 1980s that caused him to forget how to play the guitar and relearn by listening to his own 1960s recordings, Martino has re-emerged as a veteran presence on the jazz scene due in part to a successful association with Blue Note Records. Jazz legend Annie Ross continues her unprecedented, record-breaking, multi-year run at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440), every Tuesday night in October at 9:30 pm. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a $15 minimum.

Joining Gretchen will be Musical Director Tracy Stark at the piano, Lisa Brigantino on bass and guitar, and drummer Donna Kelly. "Gretchen Sings Janis Joplin's Pearl" was originally created as part of the award winning "Under the Covers" series this past March, produced by Lennie Watts. Artists in the series were asked to choose their favorite album and cover it, start to finish. In choosing Pearl, Gretchen recreates the iconic final album of legendary blues rocker Janis Joplin, exploring not only the rock side of the album with songs like "Move Over" and "Half Moon," but also the quieter moments with songs like "A Woman Left Lonely" and "Trust Me." In addition, she explores moments from Janis Joplin's life; the last of which were spent recording this album. Joplin did not live to see Pearl released in early 1971, which became the biggest selling album of her career, and produced her only #1 hit, "Me and Bobby McGee." NYC: DEB BERMAN ALL IN GOOD TIME AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM TONIGHT

Deb Berman, accompanied by guitarist, Sean Harkness, will appear in her new show ALL IN GOOD TIME at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Monday, October 25th at 7:00 pm and Tuesday, November 2nd at 7:00 pm. The pair will merrily romp through songs about life, love and the pursuit of time-well-spent set to music by John Mayer, George & Ira, Thelonius, Laura Nyro and others. There is a $15 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: CYNTHIA KAPLAN & NANCY GILES: THE NEW JACK PARR SHOW TONIGHT

Humorist and CBS Morning Show commentator Nancy Giles and author and comedian Cynthia Kaplan are returning to THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) on Monday, October 25th at 7:00 pm with "The New Jack Parr Show". This live talk/variety show, modeled, sort of, after the late Jack Paar's classic television program will feature Kaplan & Giles' hilarious take on current events, plenty of comedy, probably some songs and special guests - comics, musicians, writers - most of whom will be more famous than Kaplan or Giles, but that's life. There is a $10 cover plus a $15 food/drink minimum.
